Position Overview

Cast & Crew builds software and cloud-based technologies used by many of Hollywood's largest film, television, and commercial production companies and we’re looking for an experienced Database Engineer to join our growing team.  Working closely with our product development teams, this role is responsible for supporting our multi-platform database environment.  The role will also assist with our cloud-based products on SQL Server, Postgres, Tableau, Snowflake and MySQL based applications. 

Responsibilities

  • Strong SQL, experience writing, tuning queries based on application requirements and performing debugging on database scripts and programs, as well as resolving conflicts.
  • Highly skilled problem-solver and communicator that is fluent in most data manipulation languages.
  • Actively participate as part of matrixed product development teams providing advice on design and tuning of database objects, queries, and overall data architecture.
  • Use of tools and utilities to monitor, load and unload data, generate, and edit test data
  • Effectively plan and organize daily work following priorities, ensuring timely completion of projects and user support
  • Work with the different Technology and business team members to ensure that the associated compute resources are allocated to the databases and to ensure high availability and optimum performance.
  • Provide trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
  • Develops a continually growing knowledge of Company’s internal business practices, processes and the daily IT operational needs of the users
  • Provide query and performance expertise in support of code development
  • Monitor long running transactions and optimize query executions with index tuning and optimized T-SQL coding technique
  • Problem escalation to development team and third parties as appropriate.
  • Implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development team
  • Documenting technical environments and processes as necessary
  • Participate in the on-call rotation
  • Other related projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Postgres, MySQL and/or MSSQL and familiarity with Amazon RDS
  • Experience working in a team that delivers a high availability service
  • Working knowledge of Agile SDLC process
  • Working knowledge of programing languages E.g., TSQL, Python (designing, developing, and maintaining stored procedures, triggers, and user-defined functions)
  • Experience working in a DevOps environment with continuous delivery is a strong plus
  • Experience working with Big Data is a plus
  • Self-starter who demonstrates ownership and responsibility to resolve technical problems but also knows when to ask questions to avoid major delays in delivery of work product
  • Great oral and written business communication skills with ability to build excelling working relations with all Technology colleagues and business users
  • May require occasional on-call

Special Work Conditions

  • Sedentary – Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Some positions may entail exerting up to 15 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force to lift, carry, push, or pull.
