Senior Mobile Platform Engineering Manager

About Faire

Faire is an online wholesale marketplace built on the belief that the future is local — there are over 2 million independent retailers in North America and Europe doing more than $2 trillion in revenue. At Faire, we're using the power of tech, data, and machine learning to connect this thriving community of entrepreneurs across the globe. Picture your favorite boutique in town — we help them discover the best products from around the world to sell in their stores. With the right tools and insights, we believe that we can level the playing field so that small businesses everywhere can compete with these big box and e-commerce giants.

By supporting the growth of independent businesses, Faire is driving positive economic impact in local communities, globally. We’re looking for smart, resourceful and passionate people to join us as we power the shop local movement. If you believe in community, come join ours.

About this role

Our Retailer mobile app is crucial to our vision: Empowering entrepreneurs to chase their dreams. We want to empower entrepreneurs to run their business from their pocket through a world class mobile app!

We care about stunning design, phenomenal UX, and good engineering practices -- we love to write software that is secure, tested, easy to maintain, responsive, and performant. We build minimum viable products, deploy to production weekly, A/B test customer-facing changes, listen to the data, and iterate.

As our Mobile Engineering Manager for Platform, you’ll lead the development of the next generation infrastructure that will power Faire’s iOS & Android apps for our customers.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional peers to create strategies and plans to transition Faire towards mobile-first product development
  • Scale out the mobile engineering team that directly reports to you, along with the broader mobile engineering organization
  • Lead the creation and execution of a near term roadmap to lay the necessary foundations for the transition towards mobile first development, including infrastructure, developer velocity, team processes, design systems and other elements of the product development process
  • Ensure platform parity of key product launches during the transition to mobile-first by prioritizing intakes from partner teams and executing on roadmap through a centralized mobile product team.
  • Coach and grow mobile engineers in a fast paced environment

  • Engineer as your customer mindset - Ability to listen to mobile engineers and understand their needs, and put infrastructure solutions on the roadmap in a timely manner.
  • Ability to invest in mobile infrastructure - Identify strategic engineering investments to power the overall mobile platform, driving increased developer velocity or improved app quality. Strong intuition for when to apply incremental improvements vs taking larger swings.
  • Strong Mobile Engineering Foundation - Ability to understand at a high level the mobile engineering landscape, ensuring engineers are leveraging best practices and creating high quality mobile applications.
  • Exemplary collaborator and change manager - Builds strong relationships across functions and adjacent teams and has a proven track record of aligning disparate parts of an organization behind a shared vision, strategy and execution. Drives successful change by leveraging empathy, vision and strong communication.
  • Expert at triaging and prioritizing intakes across stakeholders - Experience in roles that required prioritizing resource allocation across requests coming from different stakeholders. Thinks like an owner, identifying and prioritizing the path that is best for the overall community and the business. Skilled at saying no, gracefully, while being resourceful at helping stakeholders finding creative solutions to resource bottlenecks.
  • Fast learner - Able to absorb context and ramp up on new areas quickly, enabling quick context switching for the team without loss in quality or thoroughness of the solutions.
  • Strong communicator - Can unify the team and executives to embark on high-reaching initiatives via inspiring storytelling and crisp articulation of strategy. Leads by example in communicating concisely, synthesizing the “so whats” from complex analyses.
  • Relentlessly resourceful - won’t quit and is hungry to go above and beyond to make an impact on the community. Is willing to roll up their sleeves and dive into the detail to help their teams overcome obstacles.

Faire’s flexible work model aims to meet the needs of our diverse employee community by making work more flexible, connected, and inclusive. Depending on the role and needs of the team, Faire employees have the flexibility to choose how they work–whether that’s mainly in the office, remotely, or a mix of both.

Roles that list only a country in the location are eligible for fully remote work in that country or in- office work at a Faire office in that country, provided employees are located in the registered country/province/state. Roles with only a city location are eligible for in-office or hybrid office work in that city. Our talent team will work with candidates to determine what locations and roles are eligible for each option.
