At Aurora, we’re on a mission to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly. It all starts with the Aurora Driver, a platform created from industry-leading hardware and software and designed to adapt across a variety of vehicle types and industries.

We’re led by a team of self-driving luminaries, and we’ve forged strategic partnerships with leading transportation companies—including ride-hailing network Uber, truck-manufacturers PACCAR and Volvo Trucks, and the world’s largest automaker Toyota—setting us up to deliver the Aurora Driver in both trucks and passenger vehicles. We are funded by Amazon, Uber, T Rowe Price, and some of Silicon Valley’s best venture capital firms, including Sequoia, Greylock, and Index Ventures.

Aurora is in the best position to lead the self-driving space with a team of unparalleled depth and expertise, the technology to deliver, and the partnerships to build a transformative business for the long-term.

Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for a Technical Program Manager to join Aurora’s Platform Software and Services TPM team focusing on Platform Reliability and Performance. The Platform Reliability and Performance team is focused on validation platforms and methodologies for Aurora’s AV software, maximizing reliability and uptime of Aurora’s deployed AV fleet, and optimizing the system performance (Memory, CPU, GPU performance, system latencies, etc.) of the entire Aurora Driver from the Linux OS running on our main compute up through Autonomy algorithms executing on GPUs.

In this role, you will

  • Partner tightly with Platform Reliability and Performance engineering managers to drive successful execution in areas critical to maximizing reliability and uptime of Aurora’s AV fleet
  • Maintain visibility of and guide strategic improvements into onboard software system performance and changes (both HW and SW) that may impact them over time
  • Be the directly responsible individual for reporting out on key onboard software system performance metrics to department leadership
  • Help build the dashboards and tools for internal developers to reason about and maximize system performance
  • Partner closely with Vehicle Operations and Service Delivery to report on software Fleet Health and identify and drive key SW improvements in operations and fleet health-impacting areas
  • Own in-field troubleshooting and diagnostic tooling across the full AV lifecycle
  • Help drive software quality upstream by owning development of our Hardware-in-the-Loop testing infrastructure
  • Serve as a go-to resource for information and up-to-date status for relevant feature areas
  • Relentlessly drive for clarity to ensure Platform Reliability and Performance feature areas are working on the highest impact capabilities at the right time to ensure we meet our company goals.
  • Develop credible quarterly plans for engineering feature areas that position Platform Reliability and Performance to meet its objectives and key results. Evolve program management and planning practices to balance pragmatism and need to establish durable and repeatable processes.
  • Understand key technical and architectural foundations of relevant feature areas and provide input on technical approaches and alternatives when needed.
  • Partner with other TPMs and Product Managers to understand the company product roadmap and identify Platform Reliability and Performance work required to meet these objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with partner teams across software, hardware, systems engineering, and product to identify incoming and outgoing dependencies required for execution
  • Track and communicate progress of key team and project progress; Adjust project management approaches based on program size, expected duration, phase in lifecycle.
  • Proactively identify and remove obstacles to unblock team execution and balance competing priorities, escalating when necessary to maintain momentum and clear roadblocks.
  • Help grow the TPM knowledge base and best practices by participating in internal team discussions and mentoring.

 Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years experience as a Technical Program Manager, Product Manager, or Engineering Manager, in an autonomous systems, robotics, embedded systems, or software development environment. A familiarity with automotive platforms and/or autonomous vehicles is beneficial.
