This is a 9 month Fixed Term Contract opportunity

Context

The purpose of Anglo American Marketing is to sustainably maximise cash flows from the marketing of Anglo-American products and services. In support of this, we have set ourselves a target to deliver a considerable uplift in Value by 2023.

We are on the path to creating a world class centralised, super-efficient, twin-centered marketing function that can anticipate market developments and proactively plan sales and marketing activities with full information, visibility and a fast, efficient decision-making process.

As Marketing continues to strive towards these ambitions the need for new ways of working and thinking, efficient processes and procedures and standardised IM systems is becoming more evident as critical enablers to our business.

Purpose

The Financial Reporting team strives to be Anglo American Marketing's centre of excellence for efficient and effective Record to Report (RTR) processes while driving optimization on processes & implementing robust controls to capture accurate business and financial information in accordance and within the framework of accounting policies across all commodities in Marketing entities.

Reporting to the Team Lead – Financial Reporting, the Analyst supports the Accountant in performing the month-end closing and financial reporting activities for the Energy Solutions businesses and works closely with other stakeholders to support the timely delivery of quality data within agreed timelines.

From time to time, the Analyst may be involved in ad hoc finance projects and business initiative and represent Finance Reporting team in providing input to enable the capturing of accurate business and financial information for the RTR processes and will also work closely with Information Management Department to deploy technology to automate finance activities.

Lastly, the Analyst plays an integral role in supporting a continuous improvement culture within Finance.

Key Tasks

Drive efficient and effective Financial Reporting

  • The Analyst helps to drive the engine room of the Finance Reporting team, making sure that transactions are appropriately accounted for, perform month end tasks and reconciliations, and duly reported. All this will need to be done within the framework of our financial controls and accounting policies, and the role works closely with Risk, Group Shared Services and the wider Finance teams to formulate, implement and operate robust controls and ensure documentation of key processes within Financial Reporting.

Deliver on-demand information

  • The role plays a key role in making information available on-demand to support commercial decisions and new business initiatives. It works closely with the Finance Business Partners and other stakeholders around the group to determine data requirements and is responsible for managing the systems and processes to capture and deliver them as efficiently and accurately as possible.
  • Supports coordination and collection of performance information from all relevant sources and delivering Monthly Financial Statements and other regular information as required by the Marketing Business, Production Business Units or Group Finance.
  • Manages information through relevant systems, ensuring that data interfaces lead to traceable, reconcilable and well-supported financial information.
  • Works with the Business Partnering and Corporate teams to design and implement the technical accounting logic to align data streams with business activities from performance and financial reporting perspectives.

Technology transformation

  • Working closely with IM, the role looks to implement technologies that improve control, increase information available for the business and automate transactional activity as much as possible, freeing up the team to add value elsewhere. It needs to think differently about the work Finance does and how it gets done, including the elimination of manual journals and recons as a cost to quality.
  • As we implement new systems, the role needs to establish appropriate processes for defining user needs and managing UAT for the Finance department, ensuring that accounting logic and financial controls are appropriately captured.

Continuous improvement

  • Create ways to measure and manage how well we perform as a team. Amongst the team, this role creates a culture that actively looks to improve workflows and processes, minimizing control weaknesses while increasing speed and accuracy.
  • Optimise links between SAP, Aspect, HFM, Blackline and other systems to ensure information is available as and when required.
  • Design and improve processes around the systems to streamline efforts required to input and extract data.
  • Drive standardisation and automation of processes via continual improvements.

Learning & development

  • Proactively engage on learning and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Accountancy or business-related subject.

Specific Knowledge requirements:

  • Familiar with using trading systems (Aspect, Veslink) will be highly regarded
  • Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
  • Well versed in financial accounting systems such as SAP/Blackline/Hyperion
  • Prior experience in managing shared service center is preferred
  • Familiar with overheads management and intercompany recoveries processes will be preferred
  • Prior knowledge of working in commodity trading and shipping companies will be a plus
