About the role

At Aurora, you will apply your analytical skills to some of the most complex and impactful challenges facing the energy sector. Through a combination of structured training and hands-on project work, we will help you build a well-rounded skillset and develop the expertise to communicate complex ideas with clarity, build client relationships, and grow into a recognised market specialist.

We are hiring at both Analyst and Senior Analyst level for our new Cape Town office. The level at which you join will reflect your experience, and your responsibilities will grow as you do. Whichever level you join at, you can expect:
  • Accelerated training in the workings of energy markets
  • Direct involvement in live client projects from an early stage
  • Opportunities to contribute to industry-leading research and analysis
  • A chance to develop a well-rounded skillset that is analytical, collaborative and communicative
  • A deeper understanding of Aurora's business and clear paths for career progression
Senior Analysts can expect to take on greater project ownership, manage client interactions directly, and support the development of more junior colleagues.

The successful candidate will start in January 2027.Ā
Our deadline is 4th October 2026; next steps will be communicated after this date. We reserve the right to close applications earlier if we receive an exceptional volume of applications

The South African opportunity

South Africa is undergoing the most significant reform of its electricity sector in a generation. The unbundling of Eskom, the introduction of a competitive wholesale electricity market, and the rapid growth of independent power producers and private power trading are together opening Africa's largest power market to competition, private investment and renewables at scale.

These changes are creating strong and growing demand for independent, rigorous market analysis to guide the decisions of investors, developers, utilities, regulators and government.

Aurora is entering this market at a pivotal moment. This is a rare opportunity to join the world's leading power analytics business as part of its very first African team, based in Cape Town, and to help build the business from the ground up while growing your own expertise in one of the world's most dynamic energy markets.
