Job Description
Position Overview
As an Analyst, Thermal Development at Invenergy, you will support our Thermal Development team on several key development functions across Invenergy's natural gas and thermal power generation project portfolio. This position will be based at our headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
Responsibilities:
Support real estate acquisition and agreement curative efforts specific to thermal project sites, including fee acquisition, easements, and option agreements.
Prepare materials and deliverables as part of securing county, state, and federal permits for thermal power generation projects, including air quality permits, land use approvals, and environmental authorizations.
Attend county meetings, sponsored events, open houses, public hearings, and other community meetings in support of thermal project development.
Identify thermal development prospects and perform site screening, including evaluation of natural gas infrastructure access, transmission interconnection proximity, water availability, and land suitability.
Assist with project development diligence across thermal workstreams, including fuel supply, interconnection, environmental review, and regulatory compliance.
Support interconnection application processes and track project milestones within relevant RTO/ISO queues (e.g., PJM, MISO, ERCOT, SPP).
Inform project strategy and prepare budgets, meeting agendas, project schedules, and other materials as needed.
Coordinate with internal teams including Legal, Environmental, Engineering, Finance, and Government Affairs to advance thermal projects through the development lifecycle.
Track department key performance indicators across the thermal project portfolio and provide recommendations to improve metrics where applicable.
Identify opportunities to eliminate errors and implement process improvements across thermal development workflows.
Monitor regulatory and policy developments relevant to thermal power generation, including state energy policies, emissions regulations, and natural gas market trends.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Engineering, Energy, Business, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.
Proficient in all MS Office software, especially Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
Professional, able to maintain confidential information, and team oriented.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize assignments, multi-task, and re-prioritize as needed.
Strong initiative and focus on process improvement.
Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
Desire and aptitude to learn and understand the energy and utilities industry, particularly thermal and natural gas power generation.
Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications:
Engineering degree is preferred, with coursework or experience in thermodynamics, mechanical engineering, or power systems.
Familiarity with natural gas infrastructure, combined cycle or peaker plant development, or thermal power generation regulatory frameworks.
Experience with or understanding of RTO/ISO interconnection processes and energy market dynamics.
Knowledge of federal and state environmental permitting requirements applicable to thermal power generation (e.g., Clean Air Act, NEPA).
Prior internship or work experience in energy development, utilities, or a related industry.
Proficiency in GIS tools or mapping software for site screening and analysis.
Base Pay
$60,000.00 - $75,000.00 USD Annual
Bonus: 15%
The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Invenergy considers a number of factors when determining base pay offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education and skills.
