Worker Designation – This role is hybrid. This means you will be expected to report to one of our Aflac offices located in New York, NY for at least 60% of the work week. What does it take to be successful in this role?

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

• Ability to learn and effectively use risk management systems, such as Archer.

• Basic understanding of operational risk management, internal controls, governance, compliance, or audit principles.

• Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of potential risks.

• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.

• Ability to analyze and interpret data from multiple sources.

• Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.

 

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelors Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Accounting or a related major
  • 0-2 years of relevant work experience in risk management or a related field.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Education & Experience Preferred

  • Certification CFA, CPA, or similar credentials

 

Travel

10% or less

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Supports the execution and continuous improvement of the Operational Risk Management framework.

• Conducts quarterly Risk Assessments and supporting activities across the Global Investments organization.

• Partners with process owners to identify existing and emerging risks and assesses the effectiveness of associated controls.

• Helps document risks, control activities, issues, action plans, and remediation efforts within the organization's risk management framework.

• Monitors and tracks Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), operational risk events, and remediation activities.

• Escalates identified concerns and supports follow-up efforts to ensure risk issues are appropriately addressed.

• Meets quarterly with business process owners to understand how their processes, systems, strategies, and operating environments are evolving.

• Collaborates with key stakeholders including but not limited to: Global Investments Risk Management, Global Investments Quantitative Analytics, GERM Columbus, Japan Risk, Investment Compliance, Human Resources, Information Security, Internal Audit, and Global Investments teams in the U.S. and Japan.

• Develops an understanding of end-to-end business processes and how risks, controls, and governance activities are interconnected across functions.

• Prepares reports, presentations, and other materials for management and committee governance.

• Analyzes risk information and trends to support decision-making and risk oversight activities.

• Maintains risk documentation and reporting within risk management systems.

• Supports the execution of Model Risk Management program activities

• Supports the review and maintenance of policies, procedures, and governance documentation.

• Contributes to special projects, control reviews, and risk-related initiatives as needed.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

In addition to the base salary, we offer an array of benefits to meet your needs including medical, dental, and vision coverage, prescription drug coverage, health care flexible spending, dependent care flexible spending, Aflac supplemental policies (Accident, Cancer, Critical Illness and Hospital Indemnity offered at no costs to employee), 401(k) plans, annual bonuses, and an opportunity to purchase company stock.  On an annual basis, you’ll also be offered 11 paid holidays, up to 20 days PTO to be used for any reason, and, if eligible, state-mandated sick leave (Washington employees accrue 1-hour sick leave for every 40 hours worked) and other leaves of absence, if eligible, when needed to support your physical, financial, and emotional well-being. Aflac complies with all applicable leave laws, including, but not limited to, sick and safe leave, and adoption and parental leave, in all states and localities.
