BIM Technician (Interior Designer)

BIM Technician

Reports to: Senior BIM Technician, BIM Manager, Design Director, or other relevant supervisor

Position Description

The BIM Technician works within the design team to produce high-quality 3D models and documentation using BIM software (primarily Revit). This role requires a strong understanding of BIM workflows, construction concepts, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a project team. The BIM Technician is expected to stay current with BIM technology and contribute to the efficient and accurate production of project deliverables.

Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate in an AEC-related discipline (Architecture, Engineering, Construction) from a university, community college, or technical school
• Minimum 2–3 years of experience, particularly in interior and architecture

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient in Autodesk software, including Revit, Navisworks, and BIM 360
• Preferred but not essential: Enscape, Dynamo, Rhino, Grasshopper
• Specialized knowledge of BIM principles for interior design, including furniture modeling, finishes scheduling, and FF&E documentation.
• Adaptability and willingness to integrate new technologies, including AI, into design workflows
• Ability to use AI tools, including Large Language Models and Generative AI
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Good spoken and written English
• Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
• Expertise in time management and meeting deadlines
• Ability to understand technical drawings and plans
• Advanced maths and computer skills
• Creativity and artistic ability
• Keen attention to detail

Responsibilities

1. Design and Modeling
   • Receive sketch concepts from designers and interpret them using BIM software (primarily Revit)
   • Set up drawings using dwp BIM standards
   • Collaborate closely with architects and engineers on projects
   • Develop and maintain BIM models for various project stages, from concept design through construction documentation
   • Develop detailed interior models, including custom FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) families, for use in construction documents and coordination.
   • Create and modify BIM families and content as needed
   • Ensure models are accurate, coordinated, and compliant with company and project standards
   • Produce Enscape renderings from the BIM model
   • Meet deadlines
2. Tender and Construction
   • Prepare coordinated Tender and Construction Documentation
   • Assist designers in developing details and cross-checking them with other relevant documents, including those from MEP and other consultants
   • Produce and maintain an up-to-date automated Drawing Register from BIM
3. Collaboration and Communication
   • Work collaboratively with architects, designers, engineers, and other project team members
   • Communicate effectively to resolve design and documentation issues
   • Participate in project meetings and facilitate discussions
4. Administration
   • Coordinate appropriate training for BIM staff
   • Coordinate standards with BIM Management and implement them in the studio
5. Quality Control and Standards
   • Ensure that the Quality Management system is implemented and maintained, and evaluate where continual improvement can be made
   • Adhere to company BIM standards and best practices
   • Perform quality checks on models and drawings to ensure accuracy and completeness
   • Assist in maintaining and updating the company's BIM content library
6. Technology & AI Integration
   • Explore and utilize approved AI tools (including LLMs and Generative AI) to:
     • Generate design options and variations
     • Automate repetitive tasks (e.g., drafting, scheduling)
     • Assist with research and information gathering
     • Enhance communication and content creation
