<p>takealot.com, a leading South African online retailer, is looking for a highly talented Catalogue Data Assistant [Fixed Term Contract] to join our team in Durban.</p> <p>We are a young, dynamic, hyper growth company looking for smart, creative and hard-working people with integrity to join us.&nbsp; We offer a market related Total Remuneration Package, which allows full flexibility according to your needs, a great work environment and a promise that you won’t be bored, as long as you are prepared for a challenge and want to build something great.</p> <p>The position of Catalogue Data Assistant reports to the <strong>Catalogue Data Automation, Optimization &amp;Team Lead:</strong><strong><br></strong><strong>Catalogue Data Operations.</strong></p> <p><strong>Purpose of the role: </strong>Execution-focused role responsible for processing the daily volume of catalog tickets, data entries, and system corrections. Working across both standard queues and AI-testing pipelines, this role ensures individual product listings are accurate, active, and compliant while providing the raw operational data needed to train automation models.</p> <p><strong>Your specific responsibilities will include:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Enrich new product listings within CatAdmin, ensuring all structural fields, variations, and image standards are correctly loaded and enhanced for customer visibility.</li> <li>Review, clean up, and resolve simple listing inconsistencies, duplicate product pages, or missing attributes to maintain high Catalog Quality Scores.</li> <li>Use internal AI co-pilot systems and pre-designed prompt templates to generate high-quality product descriptions and bullet points at scale, further enriching existing catalog data.</li> <li>Act as a human validator—reviewing, editing, and approving AI-generated content to catch and correct formatting errors or inaccurate descriptions before they go live.</li> <li>Physically audit and update accurate weight metrics, carton dimensions, and EAN/UPC barcode numbers directly from the warehouse floor.</li> <li>Execute variant linking/delinking, clean up identified duplicate listings, and resolve SKU exceptions on PIDs.</li> <li>Apply standard backend flags, disclaimers, cart limits, and specialty attributes as directed&nbsp;</li> <li>Perform customer review moderation via Cat Admin against established guidelines, and initiate Stock Confirmation requests with the DC.</li> <li>Monitor, action, and close day-to-day catalogue data tickets routed through Zendesk and Jira within agreed SLA timeframes.</li> <li>Investigate merchant listing disputes and customer data complaints, resolving straightforward errors and escalating complex data anomalies to Senior Specialists.</li> <li>Work closely with the Catalog Operations Lead to meet daily productivity and data volume targets.<br><br></li> </ul> <p><strong>Attributes required:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Hands-on CatAdmin Usage: Practical knowledge of navigating CatAdmin to locate specific SKUs, check approval statuses, modify basic product traits, and link product variants.</li> <li>Catalog Rules Comprehension: Basic understanding of online product display behavior, attribute sorting filters, and online storefront categorization.&nbsp;</li> <li>Basic Microsoft Excel Capability: Practical experience with Excel and Google Sheets, including sorting, filtering data, basic formulas, and navigating load sheets.</li> <li>Advanced Web Research: Ability to rapidly search the internet to verify manufacturing specifications, brand names, and authentic product images to enrich product profile.</li> <li>Guided AI Co-Pilots: Comfortable using prompt interfaces (e.g.,ChatGPT, internal text generation tools) to generate and enrich product copy based on strict instructions.</li> <li>Jira &amp;amp; Zendesk Familiarity: Ability to update, add notes to, and transition task statuses inside Jira and Zendesk workflow environments.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications and Experience:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Matric, Relevant Diploma OR 3+ years of administrative / data entry experience.</li> <li>1–2 years of experience within an E-commerce, Digital Merchandising, Retail Data, or Logistics environment.</li> <li>Strong, practical experience in data capturing, bulk file processing, and conducting accurate online web research.</li> </ul> <p><strong>The Environment:</strong></p> <ul> <li>takealot.com employees are entrepreneurial and dynamic, smart, customer-centric, fun and have the shared ambition of takealot.com being the leading e-commerce company in Africa.</li> <li>We have fun, work hard, take ownership, work in teams to create solutions, and are always open to direct feedback/new ideas on where we can improve</li> <li>We are short on ego and high on output</li> <li>We are doers and not only thinkers, it’s all in the execution after all</li> <li>We love what we do and what we are creating</li> </ul> <p><strong>We seek to Employ an Extra Ordinary Mind who:</strong></p> <ul> <li>is respectful but forthright</li> <li>is an expert at doing, who can not only design but also execute</li> <li>is analytical, able to use data to make decisions</li> <li>is competitive, self-directed and strive to be the BEST (GREAT requires a lot of work and does not only happen during business hours</li> <li>is passionate about the potential of e-commerce and delivering a world-class customer experience</li> <li>is entrepreneurial, thrives under change and accepts it is a constant and always looks for solutions to do something better and faster</li> <li>is business SMART.
