Compliance Data Engineer
Job Description
The Compliance Monitoring Department is looking for a data engineer based in Sofia, with strong analytical capabilities, coding proficiency and the ability to understand business processes & risks.
In this role, you will design and develop data-driven solutions that enhance compliance and internal audit processes and controls, leveraging advanced analytics and programming skills, automate testing, improve risk detection, and support continuous monitoring.

Your role will mainly include the following:
- Act as service provider and project manager for the Compliance and Internal Audit departments, delivering guidance assistance and on-going support
- Understand compliance, audit and business processes, risks & control objectives
- Translate business requirements into analytics solutions, identifying relevant data
- Analyze large and complex data sets using advanced techniques (descriptive, predictive, prescriptive) to uncover patterns, detect anomalies, and reveal hidden correlations
- Develop, schedule, and document code with a strong understanding of system databases and group methodologies & policies
- Test and validate results with end users to ensure accuracy and usability
- Monitor key risks continuously and maintain existing controls
- Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on data-driven solutions
- Build reports and KPIs to track activities and present results to committees
- Communicate and showcase achievements to stakeholders effectively
- Promote initiatives across the group, promoting department value
- Lead the development of Python-based controls
- Support the design and building of the infrastructure
- Develop complex machine learning algorithms with Cardabel such as Temporal, Supervised Machine Learning and leverage Generative AI for innovative solutions
- Create and deploy AI agents (pro-code) to automate compliance and audit tasks, leveraging frameworks such as LangChain, Azure Functions, and RAG for advanced capabilities
- Supervise and mentor junior developers, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure script quality and consistency across the team, establishing best practices and reviewing code to maintain high standards
- Operate autonomously in day-to-day activities, projects, and development tasks, taking full end-to-end responsibility.
- Influence departmental strategy by introducing new ideas, developing innovative methods, and investing in emerging technologies.
Qualifications
Experience
- Min. 3 years of work experience in big data analysis, scripting or data science
Technical Skills
- Coding knowledge and experience in multiple programming languages (Python, SQL)
- Experience using statistical computer languages (such as Python, ACL, PowerShell, API, VB script, Power BI)
- Knowledge in math models and Machine Learning
- Skills in data visualization, presenting complex insights clearly to stakeholders
- Experience in Artificial intelligence
- Knowledge and practical experience in Natural Language Processing (NLP)
- Experience in data engineering and data architecture
- A drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques
- Ability to understand business processes and to communicate with non-IT people
- Ability to translate requirements into non-technical, lay terms
