Position Overview
Resumes are being accepted for the position of Data Analyst (Transit). Reporting to the Manager of Business Services, the successful candidate will aid departments in utilizing transit data to make business decisions, including the creation of custom reports from PowerBI databases, and simple data cleansing. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City’s Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Vision for an inclusive, connected and prosperous city.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Maintain, develop, and enhance transit performance dashboards and reports.
- Extract, transform, analyze, and integrate data from multiple transit and enterprise systems, including scheduling, fare, operational, ERP, AVL, APC, and GIS platforms.
- Deliver ad hoc analysis and reporting to support operational monitoring, strategic planning, and departmental decision-making.
- Gather business requirements and translate them into sustainable reporting and analytical solutions.
- Develop, test, implement, and support data solutions based on business and functional requirements.
- Collaborate with business units and technical staff to identify data needs, troubleshoot issues, and support data assets.
- Support software updates and deployments in accordance with change management procedures.
- Keep current with emerging technologies
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and requirements
- Considerable experience related to the duties above, normally acquired through a diploma or degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Considerable experience in medium- to large-sized corporate environments working with enterprise data warehouses, business intelligence tools, and complex SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis.
- Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including dashboard development, data modeling, and report publishing.
- Experience integrating data from multiple enterprise systems, such as scheduling, fare, asset management, ERP, and GIS platforms.
- Experience writing scripts to automate data retrieval.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, stakeholders, and the public.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, while managing multiple priorities.
Hours of work35 hours per week, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Flexibility is a requirement of this position based on departmental needs to attend events and/or meetings. This position is eligible for hybrid and flexible work arrangement options (as per current corporate policy).
