Role Purpose
We are looking for an Oracle DBA to ensure the reliability, security, availability, and performance of mission-critical Oracle database platforms supporting core banking and fintech services.
This role combines hands-on technical leadership with architecture guidance, operational governance, and mentoring within a regulated, high-availability environment. The successful candidate will lead initiatives around zero-data-loss architectures, regulatory compliance, performance optimization, and 24/7 service continuity across large Oracle environments.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Architecture & Strategy
- Define and drive Oracle database platform standards and long-term strategy across the organization.
- Design and govern high availability and disaster recovery solutions, including:
- Oracle Data Guard (Physical and Logical Standby)
- Active Data Guard
- Oracle Stream replication
- OLAP
- Define RPO/RTO objectives and validate them through regular DR testing.
- Lead database architecture reviews for new applications and platform changes.
- Evaluate and implement Oracle database features and platform enhancements.
High Availability & Operational Excellence
- Administer large-scale 24/7 production environments supporting core banking, payments, trading, AML, and reporting workloads.
- Lead major upgrades, migrations, patching cycles, and platform modernization initiatives.
- Manage Oracle Grid Infrastructure, ASM, and Data Guard environments.
- Deliver near-zero downtime deployment and upgrade strategies where feasible.
- Coordinate and lead root cause analysis for critical incidents and performance issues.
Performance & Capacity Management
- Proactively monitor and optimize database performance at scale.
- Lead performance tuning initiatives involving:
- SQL execution plans
- AWR/ASH analysis
- Wait event analysis
- Optimizer statistics
- Indexing and partitioning strategies
- Diagnose and resolve complex locking, contention, memory, and I/O bottlenecks.
- Perform capacity planning and storage forecasting to support business growth.
Security, Compliance & Risk Management
- Design and implement database security controls, including:
- Unified/Legacy Auditing
- Least-privilege access models
- Support audit and regulatory requirements (PCI-DSS and local banking regulations).
- Enforce segregation of duties and controlled access processes.
- Ensure database hardening and vulnerability remediation in accordance with security standards.
Automation & Engineering Practices
- Standardize operational automation using:
- PL/SQL
- Shell scripting
- Python
- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
- Develop reusable frameworks for:
- Backup and recovery
- Health monitoring
- Capacity management
- Compliance validation
- Integrate database workflows into CI/CD and infrastructure automation pipelines.
- Automate routine operational and maintenance activities wherever possible.
Leadership & Governance
- Mentor DBAs and review technical designs and implementation plans.
- Define operational KPIs, SLAs, and monitoring standards.
- Maintain runbooks, DR procedures, architecture documentation, and operational standards.
- Serve as an escalation point for major production incidents.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, development, and architecture teams.
Required Experience
Technical
- 7+ years administering Oracle Database in enterprise or financial environments.
- Deep expertise in:
- Oracle Database internals
- Oracle Data Guard and disaster recovery
- Performance tuning and troubleshooting in large-scale environments
- Hands-on experience with:
- ASM, and Grid Infrastructure
- Oracle Data Guard and Active Data Guard
- RMAN backup and recovery
- Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
- Database patching and upgrades
- Strong SQL, PL/SQL, and scripting skills (Shell, Python, or similar).
- Experience supporting Oracle 12c and newer versions.
Industry
- Experience in banking, fintech, trading, or payment systems.
- Strong understanding of regulatory controls and audit readiness.
- Proven experience supporting mission-critical 24/7 high-availability environments.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or Azure.
- Experience with PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server in mixed database environments.
- Oracle certifications such as:
- Oracle Certified Professional (OCP)
- Oracle Certified Master (OCM)
- Oracle RAC and Grid Infrastructure certifications
