Data Center Deputy Design Manager
Job Description
Role Overview
The Data Center Deputy Design Manager supports the Design Manager in leading the multidisciplinary design delivery for complex Data Center projects across the EC portfolio. This role coordinates design teams, ensures adherence to AECOM’s design and delivery standards, and drives technical excellence throughout the design lifecycle. Operating at senior level, the Deputy DM must confidently manage multiple design packages, influence stakeholders, and maintain strong communication with PMs, DMs, technical leads, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Design Management
Support the DM in managing the full design lifecycle across multiple Data Center projects.
Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams (architecture, MEP, structures, civil, fire, security).
Ensure design deliverables meet AECOM’s PDS, QA/QC, and Data Center standards.
Review design packages for technical accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
Identify design risks, gaps, and dependencies; propose mitigation strategies.
Project & Program Coordination
Manage multiple design workstreams and ensure alignment with project schedules.
Coordinate closely with DMs, and technical leads to ensure integrated delivery.
Support resource planning, workload forecasting, and coordination with regional/global teams.
Track design progress and escalate issues proactively.
Stakeholder Influence & Communication
Operate with JL8–JL9 maturity: speak up, challenge assumptions, and drive accountability.
Communicate clearly with internal teams and client stakeholders.
Support design reviews, coordination meetings, and progress reporting.
Contribute to continuous improvement of design processes and governance.
Client & Internal Engagement
Support the DM in preparing design presentations, technical clarifications, and progress updates.
Maintain regular communication with client-side design representatives.
Identify design-related risks, opportunities, and trends within the Data Center program.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Electrical or Mechanical engineering degree with at least 10 years' experience
Preferred Profile
Strong design management experience in Data Centers or mission‑critical facilities.
Proven ability to coordinate multidisciplinary design teams.
Strong communication skills; fluent in English.
Ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment.
