Impact of the RoleThis engineer ensures that the electrical backbone of next-generation data centers is safe, reliable, and capable of supporting rapidly increasing power demans for HPC, AI, and ML workloads. Their work directly influences system uptime, scalability, and the successful deployment of high-density compute infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
The Data Center Infrastructure Electrical Engineer is responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing electrical systems that support highâdensity, missionâcritical dataâcenter environments. This role requires deep expertise in mediumâvoltage (MV) and lowâvoltage (LV) electrical distribution, including switchgear, UPS systems, transformers, and highâpower architectures for HPC, AI, and ML workloads. The engineer will own the creation and upkeep of detailed oneâline drawings, coordinate with crossâfunctional teams, and ensure electrical designs meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
Electrical System Design & Documentation
- Create, maintain, and update MV and LV oneâline drawings, ensuring accuracy across switchgear, UPS systems, transformers, PDUs, RPPs, and distribution networks
- Develop electrical designs for highâpower HPC/AI/ML clusters, including busway systems, redundant distribution paths, and highâcurrent delivery architectures
- Produce detailed electrical schematics, load calculations, breaker coordination studies, and arcâflash analyses
- Maintain documentation libraries, revision control, and design standards for electrical infrastructure
Data Center Infrastructure Engineering
- Design and support electrical systems for new dataâcenter builds, expansions, and retrofits
- Evaluate site power availability, utility interconnect requirements, and MV/LV distribution strategies
- Specify and review equipment such as MV switchgear, LV switchboards, UPS systems (doubleâconversion, rotary, modular), static transfer switches, and transformers
- Ensure designs meet reliability targets (N, N+1, 2N), fault tolerance requirements, and operational constraints
HighâPower HPC/AI/ML System Support
- Architect electrical solutions for highâdensity compute racks, liquidâcooled systems, and GPUâaccelerated clusters requiring elevated power delivery
- Work with mechanical and IT hardware teams to ensure electrical infrastructure aligns with cooling, rack layout, and deployment requirements
- Support power modeling, redundancy planning, and energyâefficiency strategies for largeâscale AI/ML deployments
CrossâFunctional Collaboration
- Partner with mechanical, controls, construction, and product development teams to ensure cohesive infrastructure designs
- Participate in design reviews, vendor evaluations, and commissioning activities
- Provide electrical engineering expertise to support product roadmaps, modular infrastructure development, and continuous improvement initiatives
Compliance, Safety & Quality
- Ensure all electrical designs comply with NEC, IEEE, NFPA, utility requirements, and local codes
- Conduct or oversee shortâcircuit, selective coordination, and arcâflash studies
- Support rootâcause analysis and corrective actions for electrical issues in production or field environments
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelorâs or Masterâs degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 5+ years of experience in dataâcenter electrical engineering, missionâcritical facilities, or industrial power systems
- Expertise in creating and maintaining MV/LV oneâline drawings and electrical documentation
- Experience with MV switchgear, LV switchboards, UPS systems, transformers, and highâpower distribution
- Strong understanding of HPC/AI/ML electrical requirements, highâdensity rack power, and redundant distribution architectures
- Proficiency with CAD tools and electrical modeling software
Pay Range
USD $150,000.00 - USD $210,000.00 /Yr.Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with modular, skidded, or containerized electrical systems
- Familiarity with liquidâcooling electrical integration (pumps, skids, controls)
- Knowledge of utility coordination, substation design, or MV protection schemes
- Experience with commissioning, FAT/SAT testing, and field troubleshooting
