Your Role
As the Solutions Engineering Team Lead – MED Region, you will lead the Solutions Engineering function across the Mediterranean region, supporting some of Digital Realty’s largest and most strategic customers across Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece, France, Bulgaria.
This is a high-impact leadership role combining people management, technical expertise, and customer engagement. You will ensure all pre-contract activities are delivered efficiently, translating complex customer requirements into clear, scalable, and commercially viable solutions.
You will own the technical relationship across the full lifecycle of an opportunity — from discovery and solution design through contracting and deployment — acting as the key link between customers, Sales, Operations, and internal teams.
You will also lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing team of Solutions Engineers, driving performance, standardization, and technical excellence across the region.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and develop the Solutions Engineering team across the MED region
- Ensure customer requirements are accurately captured and translated into deliverable technical solutions
- Support Sales teams during customer engagements, technical workshops, and solution definition phases
- Provide technical service designs for new opportunities, amendments, and customer expansion projects
- Validate feasibility of customer solutions across power, cooling, space, and operational constraints
- Develop cost models, including Capex considerations, and assess associated risks and alternatives
- Drive standardization and re-use of design components and solution approaches across the region
- Provide technical leadership during customer site tours and technical presentations
- Prioritize and manage engineering workload to ensure delivery against agreed OLAs
- Work closely with sales teams to proactively manage demand through pipeline visibility and forecasting
- Act as the key technical interface between customers, local teams, and international stakeholders
- Ensure solutions align with corporate design principles and long-term business requirements
- Coach, mentor, and inspire the team through clear objectives, regular feedback, and development plans
What You’ll Need
- Strong experience in data centre design and business-critical infrastructure environments
- Solid background supporting pre-sales and customer-facing technical solution development
- Network, or Operational data centre experience is essential
- Proven ability to translate complex customer requirements into practical, scalable solutions
- Strong understanding of cost modelling, feasibility assessments, and implementation planning
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in international and matrix environments
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure
- Experience using tools such as Salesforce and AutoCAD is beneficial
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- Previous management experience is highly beneficial / ability to motivate, coach, and develop teams
The Solutions Engineer is responsible for translating customer requirements into robust data center infrastructure solutions, ensuring technical accuracy and value delivery. They lead the design and presentation of solutions, coordinate proposal generation, and manage pricing and negotiations to secure successful outcomes. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to facilitate multi-site deployments and maintain alignment with project goals. As the technical face for customers, the engineer provides expert guidance throughout the sales cycle and supports the technical evaluation of RFI/RFPs. They also contribute insights to design and implementation teams, fostering innovation and continuous improvement. Relationship-building with stakeholders and proactive issue resolution are key aspects of this position. Bachelors degree in science, engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience) required. 7-10 years experience in data center sector or telecommunications. Prior management experience essential. Experience in data center design, infrastructure management, and sales environments. Familiarity with Salesforce, AutoCAD, Visio (basic level). Electrical, mechanical, or building services engineering experience. ITIL Expert and/or project management certifications desirable. Ability to travel and work onsite as required.
