About the role
We’re looking for a Data Engineer to join our Energy Markets & Development (EM&D) Data Engineering team within Information Systems & Technology.
This is a core technical role focused on designing, building, and supporting scalable data solutions that underpin trading, portfolio, and enterprise analytics capabilities. You’ll work within a cross-functional agile team to deliver high-quality data pipelines, contribute to the enterprise data platform, and help drive engineering best practice across the function.
What you'll be doing
Design, build and maintain scalable, high-quality data pipelines and analytics solutions
Contribute to the development and ongoing support of the enterprise data platform
Collaborate with engineers, architects and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
Work within agile delivery frameworks, contributing to planning, code reviews, and continuous improvement of engineering practices
Ensure solutions are secure, resilient, and aligned to enterprise architecture, while proactively managing risks and technical debt
Maintain data assets and ensure compliance with AGL’s security, governance and IT standards
What you'll bring
Strong data engineering experience, including building and optimising data pipelines and ETL/ELT frameworks
Proficiency in SQL and modern cloud data platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure (e.g. Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse, Data Lake)
Experience with Python/PySpark and working with diverse data formats and integration patterns
Knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools (e.g. GitHub, Azure DevOps) and modern engineering standards
Understanding of contemporary data architectures and modelling approaches (e.g. lakehouse, medallion, Data Vault/dimensional modelling)
Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in agile, cross-functional teams
