Job Description

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues. 

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

Finance Data Team is a global team responsible for the design, development and maintenance of applications supporting the mandatory Regulatory functions of Barclays across clusters in US, Europe, UK and APAC, as well as devising the reporting strategy for Finance. Its primary mission is to continuously improve efficiency and effectiveness of global and local reporting architecture to allow our business stakeholders to have a sustained competitive advantage through technology.

Reporting to the Delivery Manager, the Data engineer AWS will be accountable for both execution and communication of the development activities within one or more of the programmes in the team. With a heavy emphasis on both technical and communication skills, the developer is expected to work closely with the developers, Business Analysts, Architects and Project Managers across all regions and clusters to deliver robust design and technical solutions in a controlled, transparent and actively risk managed fashion.

To be successful as a Data / ETL Designers, you should have experience with:

  • Sound hands-on experience in on AWS Advanced Concepts, Stack (Glue, Lambda) and delivering the functionality to a high-quality meeting the agreed specifications and standards.
  • Pro-active engagement in Agile ceremonies, e.g. daily stand ups, retrospectives and product demos.
  • Ability to troubleshoot QA, UAT, production and performance issues; identifying root cause and options for optimisation.
  • Incorporation of non-functional requirements increasing maintainability and reliability; thus, reducing technical debt. 
  • Conduct regular code reviews and provide constructive feedback across the team.
  • Work with RTB to guide through production issues and proactively help with system stability and performance etc.
  • Must be able to work with global (UK, India and US) delivery teams.
  • Ensuring project documentation is maintained as per project/firm standards.
  • Actively collaborate with development teams and team leads on product development, best practices and automation.
  • Excellent analytical skills and an appetite for problem-solving and delivery.

Some of Highly Valued Skills may include:

  • Candidates with experience in Banking / Finance domain preferred.
  • Certificate or equivalent work experience demonstrating deep expertise in AWS services, cloud infrastructure, and day-to-day cloud operations.
  • Strong hold on AWS Data Analytics Technology Stack (Glue, Lambda, Step Functions)
  • Strong hands-on experience in Python and PySpark .
  • Strong hands-on experience in Amazon Athena .
  • Strong proficiency in Advanced SQL.
  • Strong understanding of Kubernetes Services / EKS.
  • Good Knowledge on GitHub, CI/CD using any tool.
  • Sound hands-on experience in Oracle 19c Database.
  • Should have worked at least on two major project implementations.
  • Exposure to financial institution with exposure to Regulatory Reporting.
  • Knowledge of the finance markets and financial products, including Balance Sheet and Income statement concepts.
  • Familiarity with complex system integration and excellent understanding of the full SDLC lifecycle including both waterfall and agile methodologies.
