Data Governance Analyst
About the Role
People First Bank is seeking a highly skilled Data Governance Analyst (Metadata and Informatica) to join our Finance & Data division. In this role, you will support the implementation, administration and continuous improvement of our Data Governance Framework - developing practical governance controls, reducing data risk, supporting data maturity uplift, and monitoring the effectiveness of data governance initiatives across the bank.
Reporting to the Leader, Data Management Capabilities, you will play a key role in maintaining and uplifting metadata standards, business glossaries, data catalogues, data dictionaries, data quality artefacts and related governance processes within Informatica.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with business users, Data Stewards, power users and technical teams to maintain business domains, subdomains, business terms, policies, stewardship assignments and asset relationships within Informatica.
- Validate classifications, retention requirements, glossary associations, workflows and technical lineage requirements.
- Capture and translate business logic into complex data quality rules, scorecards, thresholds and targets.
- Support data profiling, scanning, scheduling and persona dashboards.
- Maintain and curate business glossary terms, data catalogue entries, lineage information, data classifications, and business-to-technical asset relationships.
- Guide Data Stewards and Business SMEs in defining, documenting and maintaining clear, consistent and meaningful business metadata for critical data assets.
- Support the identification, assessment and resolution of data governance, metadata and data quality issues, including timely escalation of risks and blockers.
- Work with business and technical stakeholders to improve understanding of where critical data resides, what it means, how it is used, and whether it is fit for purpose.
- Develop and deliver training, guidance and support to stakeholders on data governance processes, metadata standards, Informatica usage and data management best practice.
- Monitor and report on adoption, compliance and effectiveness of data governance practices, contributing insights for continuous improvement.
- Uphold People First Bank's risk, compliance and workplace health and safety obligations, and contribute to an inclusive, respectful and supportive workplace culture.
About You
You are a passionate advocate for metadata management with a talent for building strong stakeholder relationships. You are motivated to support the delivery of our Data Governance Strategy, drive key governance initiatives, promote the adoption of sound metadata management practices, and help maximise the value of Informatica's Data Governance capabilities across the organisation.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
- Strong experience using data governance tools such as Informatica.
- Experience in data analytics and SQL optimisation, including SQL Server and Databricks.
- Strong data governance experience within large organisations.
- High-level understanding of data management concepts.
- Experience in data quality reporting and dashboarding.
- Experience with data management and data quality tools.
- Working understanding of regulatory requirements relating to data privacy, including CPG 235 and the Australian Privacy Principles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of change management principles.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering data governance training.
Desirable:
- Understanding of the financial services operating environment and products.
Qualifications and Memberships
Essential:
- Tertiary qualification in a data-related field, such as information technology or statistics.
Desirable:
- DAMA DMBoK certification.
- DGI certification.
