About the role
The Finance Analyst - Consumer Gross Margin is responsible for supporting the finance team in delivering accurate forecasts, insightful analysis, month-end reporting, and strategic reporting for the AGL Consumer gross margin portfolio. The position plays a critical role in partnering with key stakeholders to provide actionable insights that inform business decisions. A major focus will be driving continuous improvement in processes and financial models to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and the quality of Consumer gross margin analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
This is a 12 month maximum-term role based in Melbourne.
Key Accountabilities
Data Analytics & Insights
- Support data extraction, manipulation and analysis across billing, network and other operational datasets to enable accurate financial analysis and reporting.
- Perform data validation and reconciliation to investigate variances and respond to audit, regulatory and business queries.
- Write and run queries (e.g. SAP HANA, SQL) to extract and analyse large datasets, ensuring accuracy and completeness of outputs.
- Assist in developing repeatable datasets and improving data structures to support efficient and scalable analysis.
- Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver timely, actionable insights.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of data processes, including automation and standardisation of recurring analyses.
- Support identification of data issues, risks and improvement opportunities across billing and network-related processes.
Month End Reporting & Performance Analysis
- Support month-end reporting activities for Consumer gross margin, including close processes, variance investigation and preparation of commentary in collaboration with Product and Commercial teams.
- Perform quantitative and qualitative analysis of gross margin across market segments, comparing actuals to budget, forecast and prior year.
- Prepare clear and structured commentary on key drivers, supported by relevant analysis and metrics.
- Assist in delivery of key reporting outputs, including group reports, business performance reports, portfolio reviews and external reporting (half-year and full-year).
- Develop understanding of key non-financial drivers (e.g. customer numbers, product mix, volumes) to support analysis.
- Work closely with finance and business stakeholders to meet reporting timelines and ensure adherence to group standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of reporting processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Identify and highlight emerging trends, risks and opportunities from performance analysis.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Support the preparation of budgets and forecasts for Consumer gross margin, including analysis of key revenue and cost drivers (rate, volume, mix, wholesale and distribution costs).
- Assist in validating key assumptions and inputs to ensure they are reasonable and understood.
- Provide analytical support for forecasting, including preparation of supporting analysis and inputs for forecast packs.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in forecasting processes and models as required.
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Finance, Engineering, Analytics, Computer or Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Advanced user of MS office tools (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
- Power Bi, SQL or other coding languages experience desirable
- Demonstrated high level analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyse complex problems, identify issues, think laterally and apply analytical, qualitative and research techniques to develop appropriate strategies
