About the Role
Are you a finance professional with strong analytical skills and a passion for business insight in a dynamic, international environment?
As a Financial Analyst at Macmillan Education Iberia & Western Europe, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality financial analysis and commercial support to business and teams across multiple markets. You will contribute to strategic decision-making by providing valuable insights into product profitability, market performance, and financial trends.
In this role, you will support the preparation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts, participate in monthly and group reporting processes, and collaborate on central finance projects at both regional and group level.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders, ensuring accurate and timely financial information to support business growth with a collaborative, inclusive and purpose-driven organisation that values diversity, fosters innovation and promotes equal opportunities.
This position reports directly to the Head of Finance of the region and offers exposure to an international finance environment.
This is a hybrid role based in Madrid. This location supports effective collaboration with the team and aligns with business needs.
Role Responsibilities
- Support the preparation and consolidation of annual budgets and operational plans across different business areas, applying strong financial acumen and Planning skills to support business objectives and resource allocation
- Assist in the preparation, monitoring, and revision of forecasts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with business objectives while demonstrating excellent Financial Performance Management capabilities
- Perform detailed financial analysis, including sales and market trends, profitability of products, customers and territories, and variance analysis (actual vs budget/forecast), leveraging advanced Data Analytics expertise
- Prepare monthly management reports for local and European finance teams, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery through strong accountability skills and attention to business performance indicators
- Participate in month-end closing processes, including financial controls and reporting for Iberia and group entities, applying solid knowledge of accounting principles and financial/tax/capital market regulations
- Support the calculation and monitoring of cost of sales components (e.g. returns, discounts, provisions), utilizing expertise in Revenue & Cost analysis and financial accounting processes
- Monitor and reconcile intercompany transactions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies through a strong understanding of Financial Reporting & Compliance requirements
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Accounting, Sales, and Business Development teams, acting as a finance business partner and demonstrating excellent Stakeholder Management & Networking skills
- Contribute to continuous process improvement and participate in finance-related projects at regional or group level, utilizing Business Analysis and Process Management capabilities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
- Support the implementation, coordination and execution of audit processes (internal and external), ensuring data accuracy, compliance and timely delivery of required documentation through strong Internal Audit expertise
- Develop and enhance financial dashboards, reports and analytical tools, leveraging Data Analysis & Visualization and tech savvy skills to improve business insights and support decision-making
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
- University degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field; postgraduate studies are a plus
- 2–5 years of relevant experience in finance, controlling, or accounting roles, preferably within publishing, media and distribution.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles (local GAAP and IFRS) and financial reporting processes
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights
- Experience preparing management reports and performing variance analysis
- Proficiency in MS Excel and power point; experience with ERP SAP / S4H, and reporting/planning tools (e.g. HFM, Anaplan). JDE is an advantage
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Proactive, flexible and solution-oriented mindset, with strong attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate in an international environment
- Fluent in English (written and spoken) and Spanish
