  • Post-billing disputes: Resolve cases where customers were incorrectly taxed, or exemptions weren't applied; determine root cause and Client-error vs customer-error responsibility; coordinate invoice corrections with Operations and the Azure team.
  • Query & case management: Handle customer tax inquiries, post-enrollment and pre-approval cases in Cosmic; conduct TAID research and updates.
  • Gatekeeping & triage: Monitor the Team mailbox, assign cases, and provide first response; attend quarter- and month-end triage calls with Operations.
  • Certificate reporting: Produce and action Expired (with customer letters), Incomplete, Missing, and Completed certificate reports; run the expiring-certificate report on a rolling 60-day basis with up to three customer follow-ups; confirm certificates flow to Vertex.
  • Reconciliation: Maintain the Year-Plus case export from Cosmic and the Tax (Manual) Adjustment / TARF reconciliation; update the weekly mismatched-address report.
  • Tax reporting & journals: Post the Federal gross receipts tax journal entry to the appropriate GLs; prepare the Federal gross receipts tax report and Avalara notification.

Qualifications

  • Education – Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, related discipline, or relevant work experience in business/finance operations.
  • Demonstrated reporting and business intelligence-related work experience preferred but not required
  • Capabilities within the following tools:
    • Advanced MS Excel skills including pivots/modeling, formulas and knowledge of Power Query
    • Power BI.
    • Proficiency across SAP, Vertex, CertSolve, Cosmic and Avalara; journal-entry and tax-report support.
  • Working knowledge of US sales & use (indirect) tax – 50 independent state regimes, state vs county/city rules, home-rule states, and partial exemptions.
  • Exemption-certificate review and validation, including recognizing correct/current state form versions; federal government exemption-certificate processing.
  • Tax-dispute root-cause analysis with audit-risk awareness; reporting and reconciliation.
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail, sound judgment balancing compliance/audit risk against commercial impact, ability to work under time pressure, and excellent written English for email-first customer interaction.
  • Ability to operate within and meet or exceed tight deadlines while being flexible with duties and scope of work.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).
