Position Summary:
Performs advanced geoscience technical and data science work supporting asset teams by combining
subsurface data expertise, workflow development, and advanced analytics capabilities. This role
bridges traditional geotechnical functions with modern data science to improve data quality, workflow
efficiency, and technical decision-making. This position is expected to work independently, resolve
complex technical challenges, and contribute to the development of scalable workflows and best
practices.
Responsibilities:
• Support Riley Permian’s geoscience and asset teams by maintaining high -quality subsurface
datasets, project databases, and technical workflows used in exploration, development, and
A&D evaluation.
• Load, validate, organize, and quality-control subsurface datasets while developing repeatable
workflows that improve data accessibility, consistency, and operational efficiency.
• Maintain and improve geoscience project environments, including GeoGraphix, StarSteer,
QGIS, and other subsurface interpretation or planning tools, with an emphasis on data
integrity, usability, and workflow efficiency.
• Partner with geologists, engineers, and data/analytics resources to integrate subsurface,
operational, production, and commercial datasets into practical analytical workflows.
• Apply data science, automation, and AI/ML techniques to improve geoscience workflows,
enhance data quality, identify subsurface trends, and support technical decision-making.
• Develop data products, dashboards, analytical tools, and AI -enabled knowledge workflows
that improve technical analysis, information retrieval, and communication across asset
teams.
• Identify opportunities to improve data quality, automate recurring tasks, establish workflow
standards, documentation, and best practices that support scalable geoscience operations.
• Assist with preparation of technical data, exhibits, cross sections, logs, data summaries, and
presentation-quality visuals for internal asset reviews, management discussions, partner
meetings, and transaction support.
• Work closely with geologists, engineers, land, business development, and management while
remaining primarily embedded with and focused on geoscience team execution.
• Collaborate across teams and disciplines with a strong service mindset, clear
communication, and a practical focus on improving the speed, quality, and reliability of
geoscience work.
Skills and Competencies:
• Understanding of unconventional resource plays, horizontal development, landing -zone
evaluation, well performance trends, and asset-development workflows.
• Ability to bridge traditional geoscience technician responsibilities with modern data science,
automation, AI/ML workflows, and emerging technologies such as GenAI, prompt engineering,
RAG, and AI-enabled technical assistants
• Experience using modern analytics tools to develop dashboards, automated reports,
visualizations, and analytical solutions that support upstream decision-making.
• Familiarity with industry data sources such as IHS, Enverus, regulatory databases, vendor data
rooms, and third-party technical datasets.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability
to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
• Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to
new technologies and workflows, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-moving asset-team
environment.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in geology, geoscience, engineering, data science, computer science,
information systems, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent petroleum industry
experience will be considered.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in geoscience technical support, subsurface data
management, geotechnical workflows, petroleum data analytics, or related oil and gas
technical roles preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of subsurface datasets, including well headers, directional surveys,
formation tops, raster/vector logs, digital log curves, completion data, production data,
seismic-related data, and interpretation outputs.
• Experience supporting geoscience teams using subsurface applications such as GeoGraphix,
Petra, Petrel, Kingdom, StarSteer, Techlog, or similar petroleum technical software.
• Demonstrated ability to load, validate, reconcile, and maintain technical data across multiple
systems while developing practical workflows, QA/QC standards, and technical outputs that
support geoscience and engineering objectives.
• Experience applying AI/ML, GenAI, automation, analytics, Python, SQL, and related
technologies to support data-driven solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot data issues,
identify root causes, and recommend practical workflow improvements.
• Strong knowledge of subsurface datasets, including well, log, production, completion,
seismic, and interpretation data.
• Experience with petroleum software such as GeoGraphix, Petra, Petrel, Kingdom, StarSteer,
Techlog, or similar platforms.
