Overview

The Grant Budget Analyst, Branches is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis of all assigned federal, state, county, city, and foundation awards, as well as fee for service programs, and related administrative departments within the Branches of the Association. This position meets with program leadership on a monthly basis to review budget/forecast trends versus actual, investigate variances, recommend correcting Journal Entries, and update the forecast with budget software, Adaptive Insights. If spending is forecasted to diverge meaningful from the approved budget, the Grant Budget Analyst works with that contract’s program director to create and submit an Administrative Adjustment Request (AAR) or Budget Modification. Finally, the Grant Budget Analyst will annual build and submit budgets for existing contracts and supports the Senior Director of Finance in the submission of new budgets for Requests for Proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Develops annual budgets and updates monthly forecasts for assigned grants, contracts, and departments, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and funding requirements; supports the Senior Director of Finance in the submission of new budgets for Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Conducts routine and ad-hoc financial analyses of revenue and expenses, comparing historic performance against budgets and forecasts to provide insights to branch and program leadership; collaborates with program directors to prepare and submit Budget Modifications or Administrative Adjustment Requests (AARs) when any meaningful grant modifications from the contract are needed
  • Applies compliance standards unique to various Federal, State, and local contracts using OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
  • Produces and submits monthly contract billing and collaborates with the Senior Director of Finance to estimate and record necessary accruals for the monthly close
  • Creates, maintains, and optimizes financial reporting tools and dashboards within the financial reporting software (Adaptive Insights, NetSuite) to streamline data visualization and tracking; disseminates standard Adaptive and NetSuite financial reports to branch leadership
  • Conducts training sessions for branch and program staff regarding budget allocations, expense categorization, and the identification of unallowable costs
  • Runs monthly budget review meetings with branch and program leadership to communicate budget and forecast trends, investigate variances, recommend Journal Entries corrections, and update the forecast
  • Compiles relevant organizational data from multiple sources into meaningful reports or dashboards for various stakeholders
  • Assists with maintaining proper document storage and audit readiness
  • Actively participates in required staff meetings, professional development events and trainings, and agency-wide initiatives
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to interpret contract terms and conditions to ensure fiscal compliance and operationalize compliance systems
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (with an emphasis on Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate organizational processes, identify efficiencies and assess compliance; ability to recommend and implement effective procedural improvements
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information effectively to staff, management, clients, regulators, and community partners
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks to meet established deadline, while applying expertise in the implementation of administrative procedures
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, fostering working relationships within a diverse, multicultural environment
  • Excellent critical thinking and troubleshooting skills, demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness when identifying needs and proposing solutions
  • Commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive financial information
  • Possesses self-awareness, flexibility, and adaptibility, with a willingness to learn and grow within the role
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, business or a related field, OR four (4) years equivalent related experience is required
  • 2+ years' of experience in accounting, finance, economics, business or related field work experience required
  • Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and include subsequent arrest notifications 
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within 30 days of hire and must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
    • American Red Cross
    • American Heart Association
    • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range

USD $71,621.81 - USD $85,946.17 /Yr.
