Marana Health is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join the Information Technology team at the Marana Main Health Center, located in the heart of Marana, AZ.
The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and ongoing support of Marana Health's enterprise data platform, Azure-based Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), data integration architecture, and analytics infrastructure.
This position serves as the organization's primary technical expert for enterprise data engineering and is responsible for developing scalable, secure, and governed data solutions that support clinical, operational, financial, quality, regulatory, and executive reporting requirements.
The Senior Data Engineer partners closely with Strategy & Analytics, Information Technology, Clinical Informatics, Information Security, Compliance, Finance, and operational leaders to ensure enterprise data assets are reliable, accessible, secure, and aligned with organizational goals.
The position plays a critical role in supporting Data Governance initiatives, enterprise analytics, population health management, value-based care programs, and future Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) capabilities.
Marana Health is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 11 sites in Tucson and Pima County. Our mission is to improve our community by providing exceptional, whole-person healthcare.
The following qualifications are required:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Information Technology, Healthcare Informatics, Engineering, or related field.
Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in data engineering, database development, enterprise reporting, data integration, cloud analytics platforms, or related technical disciplines.
Minimum three (3) years of experience designing and maintaining ETL/ELT processes and enterprise data pipelines.
Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
Current Arizona driver's license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39-month MVR will be run by MH)
Advanced SQL development and query optimization experience.
Experience supporting enterprise data warehouse environments.
Experience integrating data from multiple enterprise systems and applications.
Experience working with cloud-based analytics and data platforms.
Experience developing technical documentation and data architecture standards.
The following qualifications are preferred:
Master's degree in Data Science, Information Systems, Analytics, Healthcare Informatics, Computer Science, or related field.
Experience supporting Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), healthcare systems, or ambulatory healthcare organizations.
Experience with AthenaOne, healthcare analytics, population health, quality reporting, or value-based care programs.
Experience utilizing Microsoft Azure Data Platform technologies, including: Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, and Power BI
Experience with healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, APIs, and healthcare data exchange technologies.
Experience supporting enterprise Data Governance initiatives.
Experience supporting Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or predictive analytics initiatives.
CERTIFICATIONS (preferred)
Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Azure Fundamentals
Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
Healthcare interoperability or analytics certifications
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job.

Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Data Pipelines, Dataflows, Lakehouse architecture, and Semantic Models.
Understanding of healthcare data structures, clinical workflows, and interoperability standards.
Knowledge of Data Governance, data stewardship, data quality, metadata management, and data lineage principles.
Understanding of HIPAA Security Rule requirements and healthcare data privacy standards.
Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning data requirements.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain Marana Health's Azure-based Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
Support and optimize Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure SQL, and related enterprise analytics technologies.
Develop scalable cloud-native data solutions supporting enterprise reporting and analytics.
Monitor platform performance, utilization, scalability, reliability, and operational effectiveness.
Establish data engineering standards and best practices for enterprise data solutions.
Recommend improvements and enhancements to enterprise data architecture and platform capabilities.
Design, develop, and maintain enterprise data pipelines and integration processes.
Build and support ETL/ELT solutions that consolidate data from clinical, operational, financial, and external systems.
Develop automated data ingestion, transformation, validation, and loading processes.
Establish reusable data integration frameworks and engineering standards.
Optimize data processing and data movement performance across enterprise systems.
Develop monitoring and alerting processes for critical data workflows.
Develop and maintain healthcare integrations utilizing HL7, FHIR, APIs, flat files, and other interoperability standards.
Support AthenaOne reporting, UDS reporting, MIPS reporting, population health initiatives, quality reporting, and operational analytics programs.
Collaborate with Clinical Informatics and operational leaders to improve access to trusted healthcare data.
Ensure enterprise healthcare data assets are structured and available for analytics and decision-making.
Develop and maintain enterprise data models supporting dashboards, reports, and analytics solutions.
Partner with analysts and business intelligence developers to optimize reporting environments.
Support self-service analytics and enterprise reporting initiatives.
Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and availability across reporting platforms.
Assist in development of enterprise semantic models and governed datasets.
Partner with the Information Security Officer and organizational leadership to support Data Governance initiatives.
Implement data quality monitoring, validation, and exception reporting processes.
Support enterprise metadata management, data lineage, and data catalog initiatives.
Assist in development and maintenance of enterprise data dictionaries and business glossaries.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and resolve data quality issues.
Promote enterprise data standards and stewardship practices.
Design and maintain data environments supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), predictive analytics, and advanced reporting initiatives.
Develop curated, governed, and high-quality datasets supporting future AI use cases.
Collaborate with Information Security, Analytics, and operational leadership to ensure AI-related data solutions align with governance, privacy, security, and compliance requirements.
Support implementation of future AI and advanced analytics platforms.
Evaluate emerging technologies supporting AI, automation, and advanced analytics capabilities.
Ensure enterprise data solutions comply with HIPAA, organizational security standards, and regulatory requirements.
Collaborate with the Information Security Officer regarding data protection, access controls, encryption, and governance requirements.
Support audits, risk assessments, and compliance activities affecting enterprise data systems.
Implement secure data architecture principles and least-privilege access methodologies.
Serve as the organization's technical subject matter expert for enterprise data engineering and Azure analytics platforms.
Partner with Strategy & Analytics, Information Technology, Clinical Informatics, Compliance, Finance, and Operations teams.
Participate in Data Governance, Analytics Governance, AI Governance, and related organizational committees.
Provide recommendations regarding future data platform investments and enterprise analytics capabilities.
Mentor future data engineering and analytics personnel as the organization's data capabilities mature.
