Job Summary/Purpose of Position:

The International Trade Compliance Analyst plays an important role in ensuring the import and export activities of product as well as ensuring data exchanges with suppliers and customers are compliant to international trade and controlled goods laws. This position will oversee the customs clearance process for international shipments, ensure adherence to applicable customs regulations, ensure product and data have been properly classified under the Canadian ECL/USML/EAR, and proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency and minimize risks associated with global trade. The ideal candidate will have experience in global customs procedures, regulations, and compliance management.

 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Ownership of the CGD, Customer & Supplier Trade Compliance personnel and US Trade Compliance within the Kanata site to ensure engagements are classified and being handled correctly.
  • Act as Designated Official and ensure processes and reporting are adherent to the Canadian Controlled Goods Program
  • Ensure facility and staff is compliant to CGD, DFARS & CMMC requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, international customs, and controlled goods regulations.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of import and export documentation for customs clearance.
  • Advise on appropriate customs classifications, valuations, and duty rates.
  • Monitor and manage global compliance processes to ensure timely and cost-effective imports and exports.
  • Support Free Trade Agreement (FTA) management.
  • Regulatory Knowledge & Risk Management:
    • Stay up to date on global customs regulations, laws, and best practices.
    • Identify potential compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate those risks.
    • Liaise with external legal counsel, customs brokers, and regulatory bodies as needed as well as internal corporate teams.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Continuously assess and improve controlled goods, global trade and customs compliance processes.
    • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure that trade compliance is integrated into business processes.
  • Customs Audit & Reporting:
    • Manage audits and provide necessary documentation to regulatory authorities.
    • Prepare and present regular reports on customs compliance performance to manager.
    • Handle customs-related inquiries and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
  • Training & Support:
    • Provide training to internal teams on customs compliance and regulatory requirements.
    • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) on CGD, DFARS, ITAR, & global customs compliance issues.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
    • Work closely with supply chain, logistics, legal, and finance teams to ensure global trade processes run smoothly.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international business, Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Controlled Goods, global customs compliance, or international trade compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of ECL of Canada and the USML & EAR of the US including some working knowledge global customs regulations and customs compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with CGD, Global Affairs, US State Department, customs brokers and regulatory authorities.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Able to obtain your Controlled Goods Certification, as well as International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) Clearance.

 

Other Information:

  • The compensation range for this position is $80,000-$100,000 annually.
  • This position is for an existing vacancy.
  • The hiring process for this position does not use Artificial Intelligence (AI).
