About the Position:
The Laboratory Analyst 2 is responsible for all aspects of laboratory analysis, including production, time management, quality control, and turnaround time.
Specific Responsibilities:
Responsible for preparation of standards, stocks, and materials.
Operates Basic, Level 1, and Level 2 analytical instruments.
Generates work lists and organizes analytical runs.
Prepares complex sample extractions, preparations, and analyses.
Performs calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Basic, Level 1, and Level 2 analytical instruments.
Assists with training of other staff in the department.
Reviews and writes SOPs.
Performs Quality Control approval reviews.
Carries out all required work scheduling and planning activities.
Completes all required data processing (including calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.).
Maintains all required record-keeping and documentation.
Communicates with the Client Services staff as required.
Delivers accurate results to clients in a timely manner.
Makes technical decisions for non-routine, complex analyses or matrices.
Monitors inventory of spare parts and consumables.
Follows Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements and adheres to strict QA/QC requirements.
Uses correct methods in accordance with established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
Observes established safety regulations and complies with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Good English communication skills (auditory, verbal, written, and reading) are required.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer skills.
Accurate and efficient data entry skills are an asset.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment.
Well organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
Analytical and process-oriented, with the ability to think critically in ambiguous situations.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of a degree or diploma in Biology, Microbiology, or a related discipline is required.
Some experience working in a fast-paced production and/or preparation environment.
Previous experience as a Laboratory Analyst is required.
Previous laboratory experience is an asset.
Physical Demands:
Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks.
Must wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Ability to stand for a full shift.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. (14 kg) on a regular basis and carry items for short distances.
May be exposed to unpleasant odours.
Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and requires day, afternoon, and graveyard shifts, including weekends.

An estimated hourly pay of $23.33 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
