Linux and Database Administrator

Position Overview

We are seeking a Linux and Database Administrator to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will have experience with the LAMP environment management of Linux servers and administration of multiple database systems, including MySQL / MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server. This role is critical to ensuring the performance, security, and reliability of our systems and databases.


Key Responsibilities

  • Database Management: Design, implement, and maintain MySQL / MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability, performance, and data integrity.
  • Linux Server Administration: Manage and optimize Debian and Ubuntu Linux servers used to  host applications and databases. Responsibilities would include system updates, security patches, and performance tuning.
  • LAMP Stack Support: Configure and troubleshoot LAMP stack environments, ensuring integration of Apache, MySQL/MariaDB, and PHP-based applications.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize database and server performance, including query tuning, indexing, and resource allocation.
  • Backup and Recovery: Implement, Test and Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for databases and Linux servers to ensure business continuity.
  • Security Management: Enforce security best practices, including user access control, encryption, and vulnerability management for both databases and Linux systems.
  • Automation: Develop and maintain scripts to automate routine administrative tasks and improve system efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to databases, Linux servers, and LAMP stack components in a timely manner.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, processes, and procedures for system and database administration.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the IT Manager, Developers, System Administrators, and other stakeholders to support application deployment and system integration.


Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Linux and Database Administrator, with hands-on expertise in MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in Linux server administration (e.g., Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat).
    • Strong knowledge of LAMP stack configuration and troubleshooting.
    • Expertise in database administration, including schema design, performance tuning, and backup/recovery for MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft SQL Server.
    • Familiarity with scripting languages for automation.
    • Experience with monitoring tools and database management tools (e.g., DBeaver, pgAdmin etc).
  • Certifications: Preferred certifications include MySQL/MariaDB certifications, PostgreSQL certifications, or Microsoft SQL Server certifications.
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field would be an advantage especially if coupled with relevant professional experience.

Working Conditions

Full-time position with occasional after-hours availability for upgrades or system issues.
