- Build data products that drive better decisions
At Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB), we're building a data-led future. Our DataX & GTS Analytics team partners with some of the bank's most important businesses, transforming complex data into insights, products and solutions that drive commercial performance, improve client outcomes and support strategic decision-making.
We're looking for a hands-on and technically strong Manager, Data & Analytics to help bridge the gap between business, analytics and engineering. This is a role for someone who enjoys engaging with stakeholders, solving complex business problems and getting into the detail of how data products, models and pipelines are designed and delivered.
Working across DataX, Global Transaction Services (GTS) and our broader client and product teams, you'll help turn business challenges into scalable data solutions that create measurable impact.
In this role, you will:
- Partner with stakeholders to understand business challenges and identify opportunities to leverage data and analytics.
- Translate business requirements into scalable data, analytics and reporting solutions.
- Design, build and maintain analytical datasets, data pipelines, information models and data products that support both internal and client-facing use cases.
- Source, transform and analyse large and complex datasets from multiple platforms and systems.
- Develop insights, reporting and data products that support commercial growth, client engagement and strategic decision-making.
- Work closely with engineering and platform teams to ensure data quality, reliability, governance and operational excellence.
- Troubleshoot data issues and drive continuous improvements across analytics workflows and processes.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Contribute to best-practice analytics, engineering standards, automation and knowledge sharing across the team.
We're interested in people who bring:
- Strong SQL skills and extensive experience working with large and complex datasets.
- Experience building and maintaining data pipelines, transformation processes and analytical data models.
- Hands-on experience with Python and modern cloud-based data platforms such as Snowflake, Synapse, Databricks or similar.
- Experience delivering analytics, reporting and data solutions that drive business outcomes.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, data architecture and analytical problem solving.
- Experience working with version control, code review and other modern development practices.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively across business and technical teams.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
- Commercial curiosity, sound judgement and a pragmatic approach to solving problems.
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to challenge thinking constructively.
- Exposure to data science, machine learning or statistical modelling techniques would be highly regarded, particularly where these have been applied to solve real-world business problems or develop data-driven products and solutions.
What will set you apart
You'll likely have experience in analytics, analytics engineering, data engineering, consulting, financial services or another complex environment where you've delivered end-to-end data solutions.
You're equally comfortable discussing strategic opportunities with senior stakeholders as you are diving into SQL, Python or pipeline code to solve technical problems.
Experience in financial services is highly regarded, but we're equally interested in exceptional candidates from other industries who bring a strong combination of technical depth, business engagement and delivery focus.
