About the role
At AGL, we're reimagining how data and AI can transform the way we serve our customers, support Australia's energy transition, and deliver value across our business. As we continue to invest in modern data platforms, advanced analytics, AI and GenAI capabilities, we're seeking a Principal Data & AI Architect to provide strategic leadership across our enterprise landscape.
This is a rare opportunity to shape AGL's Data & AI architecture direction, working closely with senior business and technology leaders to define the frameworks, platforms and guardrails that will enable trusted, scalable and business-led outcomes. You'll play a critical role in simplifying complexity, influencing enterprise investment decisions, and ensuring the safe and responsible adoption of modern Data & AI capabilities across the organisation.
What You'll Be Doing
Define and lead AGL's enterprise Data & AI architecture strategy across data platforms, analytics, AI/ML, GenAI, data products and integration services.
Establish architecture standards, reference architectures and governance frameworks that enable secure, scalable and reusable solutions.
Partner with senior business and technology leaders to translate strategic priorities into architecture roadmaps, investment decisions and business outcomes.
Lead architecture for complex Data & AI initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise platforms, business capabilities and responsible AI practices.
Provide expert guidance to senior stakeholders by translating technical concepts into clear business opportunities, risks and recommendations.
Strengthen governance across data quality, lineage, metadata, privacy, security, stewardship and AI model management.
Drive platform and capability investment decisions by identifying opportunities for increased productivity, reuse and business value.
Coach and mentor architects, engineers and delivery teams, uplifting enterprise architecture capability and modern Data & AI practices.
Monitor emerging technologies and industry trends, assessing how new capabilities can be leveraged across AGL.
What You'll Bring
Extensive experience leading enterprise architecture, data, analytics and AI transformation programs within large, complex organisations.
Deep expertise across modern Data & AI technologies, including lakehouse architectures, data products, AI/ML, GenAI, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric and Azure data services.
Strong knowledge of data governance, privacy, security, model governance and enterprise architecture standards, with the ability to simplify complexity and drive platform reuse.
Proven experience developing enterprise architecture strategies, reference architectures and technology roadmaps.
Strong understanding of modern cloud, integration and security architectures, including API-led, event-driven and identity management patterns.
Experience building and governing enterprise AI capabilities, including MLOps, model lifecycle management, observability and responsible AI controls.
Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence executives, business leaders and technical teams alike.
Demonstrated success coaching architects, engineers and delivery teams while fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
Experience within highly regulated industries such as energy, utilities, financial services or telecommunications will be highly regarded.
Relevant Azure, Databricks, Data Management or AI certifications would be advantageous.
We’d love to see your applications by Thursday 17th September 2026.
