Chevron is accepting online applications for the position Reliability Engineer through June 3, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time).  

Chevron is seeking a Reliability Engineer to support our El Segundo Refinery. In this role, you will help ensure critical equipment and systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably throughout their lifecycle.

You will work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to identify reliability risks, improve asset performance, and implement long-term solutions that enhance plant reliability and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze equipment performance and reliability data to identify recurring issues and high-risk assets
  • Partner with site teams to investigate and resolve equipment reliability issues from identification through closure
  • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance personnel to incorporate field insights into practical improvement solutions
  • Lead reliability studies and assessments, ranging from individual equipment evaluations to broader unit or plant-level reviews
  • Use data analytics and engineering judgment to prioritize efforts that deliver the highest value to the facility
  • Facilitate cross-functional meetings to drive alignment, accountability, and timely resolution of reliability issues
  • Apply structured reliability and maintenance methodologies such as:
    • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
    • Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM)
    • Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA)
  • Support equipment reliability considerations in capital projects and plant modifications (design for reliability)
  • Contribute to turnaround planning by identifying and prioritizing reliability-focused work scope

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or equivalent relevant experience in a technical or data-focused field)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in refining, petrochemical, or related heavy industry
  • Working knowledge of process equipment, including rotating, fixed, electrical, and instrumentation systems
  • Ability to analyze incomplete or imperfect data and make risk-based decisions
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet commitments
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading reliability or continuous improvement initiatives in a refinery or manufacturing environment
  • Strong problem-framing skills with the ability to drive ambiguous issues to resolution
  • Track record of influencing outcomes across cross-functional teams without direct authority
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and data-driven decision-making
  • Passion for improving systems, challenging the status quo, and driving sustainable change
  • Strong business acumen with an understanding of cost, risk, and value trade-offs

Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable to successful candidates who are hired onto local United States payroll.
  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $120,300 – $180,500 Annually.
