Role Overview
The Technical Specialist – SAP Data Extraction (Procurement) is responsible for designing, developing, and executing SAP-based extraction solutions to support the migration of procurement data from SAP ECC6 to Workday. The role focuses on translating functional migration requirements into scalable and reusable technical extraction programs that deliver accurate, complete, and consistent procurement data across multiple migration cycles.
Working closely with Functional Architects, Data Migration Leads, and Technical Architects, the specialist will develop extraction solutions for key procurement domains including suppliers, purchase orders, contracts, purchasing information records, sourcing data, and related transactional and financial linkages. The role ensures that extracted data aligns with migration standards, reconciliation requirements, and downstream ingestion processes within the (ADMP). This aligns with SAP procurement and data migration practices referenced in internal SAP role descriptions.
Key Responsibilities
SAP Data Extraction Development
- Design, build, and maintain SAP extraction programs to support procurement data migration activities.
- Translate functional mapping specifications and business requirements into efficient technical extraction solutions.
- Develop custom ABAP-based extraction programs and leverage appropriate SAP extraction methodologies to retrieve procurement datasets.
- Build scalable and reusable extraction routines capable of supporting multiple trial conversions, dress rehearsals, and production migration cycles.
- Ensure accurate extraction of relationships between suppliers, purchasing documents, contracts, and associated financial records.
Procurement Data Migration Support
- Extract procurement-related data across key domains, including:
- Supplier Master Data
- Purchase Orders
- Contracts and Agreements
- Purchasing Information Records
- Source Lists
- Procurement Transactional Data
- Reference and Configuration Data
- Ensure extracted data supports Workday migration requirements and associated transformation processes.
- Maintain traceability between SAP source data and migration deliverables.
Data Quality and Validation
- Ensure extraction outputs conform to agreed file structures, field definitions, metadata requirements, and delivery standards.
- Validate completeness, accuracy, and consistency of extracted data through reconciliation and control processes.
- Support investigation and resolution of data quality, mapping, and reconciliation issues.
- Work with Functional Architects to refine extraction logic and address defects identified during testing and conversion cycles.
Conversion Cycle Execution
- Execute extraction programs for mock conversions, trial migrations, dress rehearsals, and production cutover activities.
- Monitor extraction performance and optimize programs to support increasing data volumes and processing efficiency.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions to ensure successful delivery of migration datasets.
- Support auditability and repeatability of all migration activities through robust documentation and version control.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner closely with Functional Architects (Procurement) to ensure accurate interpretation of business requirements and alignment with Workday data structures.
- Collaborate with Technical Architects, Data Migration Leads, and reporting teams to support end-to-end migration execution.
- Participate in migration planning, defect management, reconciliation activities, and solution reviews.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of migration tools, templates, and extraction methodologies.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong experience developing SAP extraction solutions using ABAP and SAP data extraction technologies.
- Experience supporting SAP ECC6 or SAP S/4HANA data migration programs.
- Solid understanding of SAP Procurement processes and data models, including supplier management, purchasing, contracts, and procurement transactions.
- Experience translating functional requirements into technical extraction logic and data mapping specifications.
- Knowledge of data migration methodologies, reconciliation processes, and data quality controls.
- Experience working with structured file formats and enterprise data migration platforms.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities within complex transformation programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting migrations from SAP ECC6 to Workday or similar ERP transformation programs.
- Knowledge of procurement-related SAP modules including MM, SRM, Ariba, and S/4 Procurement.
- Experience with large-scale enterprise data migration tools and frameworks.
- Familiarity with ETL processes, data governance practices, and migration automation approaches.
- SAP technical certification or equivalent experience.
