Senior Benefits Analyst

Responsibilities:
As a key member of the Health & Welfare Practice, the Senior Benefits Analyst will support the company's objectives by providing technical support to our team of Health and Welfare consultants and serving as a mentor, leader and reviewer to analysts located in multiple offices.
Analytical work:
- Review and utilize health plan data, financial reports and other specialized reports.
- Review insurance and service provider renewals, negotiate with vendors, confirm renewals and follow up as needed.
- Prepare periodic client reports on plan operations/performance including annual budget projections of income, expenses and plan reserves.
- Calculate projected plan costs for self-insured coverages (i.e. medical, dental, prescription drug, and vision benefits).
- Calculate COBRA rates, other self-payment rates and required Employer Contribution rates.
- Determine the projected costs savings/cost of benefit or eligibility modifications.
- Identify and recommend best practices to support the clients and practice.
Other Technical and Writing:
- Project manage client deliverables and internal team workflow
- Prepare Consultant’s reports for Board meetings.
- Prepare and review Request for Proposals (insurance carriers or service providers).
- Draft and/or review plan comparisons, participant notices, Summary Plan Descriptions, Plan Documents and amendments, as requested.
- Assist in compliance and regulatory reporting requirements.
Client-facing responsibilities:
- Serve in the primary analyst role with clients.
- Attend client meetings along with Consultant, which may include some out of town and overnight travel.
- Regularly present to clients and colleagues.
Interpersonal responsibilities:
- Collaborate with, oversee and mentor other analysts to develop/improve data and project management capabilities.
- Act as a peer backup to analysts.
- Communicate both in writing and verbally with external clients and effectively communicate across departments and teams within the organization; Health & Welfare, Actuarial, OPEB & Pension, Communication, etc.
Necessary Skills and Attributes:
- Excellent technical, research and data analysis skills.
- Strong knowledge of statistics and business operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
- Analytical, creative, able to resolve issues quickly.
- Detail-oriented, excellent organizational skills, ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
- Very strong use of Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, etc.); must have deep understanding and proficiency using MS Excel.
- Understanding of plan modeling software programs (Claros Analytics a Plus), and experience building and revising models.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in, Math, Actuarial Science, Economics, Business or similar degree or equivalent work experience.
- Appropriate Insurance licensing / CEBS / Actuarial credentials highly desirable.
- Minimum of five years of experience working in a similar role/industry.
- Experience working in the healthcare industry either with an insurance company or employee benefits consulting firm.

Total Comp and Benefits:
