Position Summary

Do you enjoy solving complex business problems through data? As a Senior Data Analyst on Marathon Petroleum’s Commercial Data & Insights team, you will transform data into actionable insights that empower our Commercial organization to make confident, data-driven decisions. Leveraging business acumen, analytical expertise, and data visualization skills, you will identify, analyze, and solve high-impact business challenges while developing high-quality, trusted and governed analytics solutions. Success in this role requires the ability to integrate data from multiple sources, communicate findings to business stakeholders, and collaborate across teams to deliver meaningful insights that create business value.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with business partners to deliver sustainable solutions for analytics and process improvements

  • Understands business processes and related data sources, models data for reuse across analyst groups

  • Supports analytics data solutions; works with system support teams to correct and/or enhance data

  • Acquires, cleans and preprocesses raw data from various sources to ensure accuracy and reliability; maintains knowledge of key systems and queries those systems for data.

  • Conducts in-depth analysis of large datasets to extract meaningful insights and trends

  • Develops and implements analytical solutions to identify trends, risks, and opportunities

  • Performs statistical analysis to identify patterns and correlations in the data

  • Creates visually compelling and easy-to-understand dashboards and reports

  • Communicates findings to stakeholders through charts, graphs, and presentations

  • Ensures integrity and quality of data through regular audits and validation processes

  • Works closely with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and deliver insights

  • Drives continuous improvement in business processes and data analytics best practices

  • Establishes and supports data governance to ensure data is fit for optimum use by the organization

  • Partners and leads initiatives to build sustainable data pipelines, automations, and advanced analytics solutions

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree required, with a preference in Business, Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or related.

  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience required

Preferred:

  • Ability to build strong partnerships with business stakeholders and translate business needs into analytical solutions.

  • Passion for solving business problems with data and communicating insights in a clear, actionable manner to drive decision-making.

  • Proven ability to think critically and solve complex problems with incomplete information and ambiguous requirements. Demonstrates a flexible analytical approach that delivers results at varying levels of precision.

  • Experience solving complex business problems through data, including sourcing, querying, analyzing, modeling, and communicating insights that drive business outcomes.

  • Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.

  • Experience using SQL and data transformation tools such as ADF, Synapse, Power Query, Databricks, or similar technologies.
