Job Description

Be a part of transformational change where integrity matters, success inspires, and great teams collaborate and innovate. U.S. Bank is seeking a Senior Data Analytics / Software Developer who will contribute to the success of technology initiatives by analyzing, designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting enterprise data analytics and reporting solutions.

This role will focus on building high-quality data products that enable trusted business insights, operational reporting, self-service analytics, and informed decision-making. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering discipline with deep experience in SQL Server, Azure data services, Power BI, OLAP/semantic modeling, data warehousing, and reporting methodologies. Because this role operates in a small-team environment, the candidate must be comfortable wearing multiple hats and taking practical ownership across all levels of the work: business analysis, technical analysis, database development, report development, testing, release coordination, troubleshooting, and production support. The candidate will work in an Agile delivery model, partner closely with business and technology stakeholders, and apply AI-enabled tools and practices to improve productivity, quality, automation, and speed to insight.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, operate, and maintain scalable data analytics, business intelligence, and reporting solutions using Azure, SQL Server, Power BI, OLAP, and related database reporting tools.
- Own end-to-end delivery responsibilities in a small team setting, including requirements clarification, data analysis, solution design, coding, unit testing, implementation, user support, issue resolution, and ongoing production stability.
- Build and optimize SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, queries, data models, and reporting structures with attention to performance, reliability, maintainability, and security.
- Develop and maintain Power BI semantic models, dashboards, reports, measures, and datasets that provide accurate, actionable, and user-friendly insights for business and technology stakeholders.
- Design and support OLAP, dimensional, and semantic models that enable trend analysis, historical reporting, self-service analytics, KPI tracking, and executive reporting.
- Translate business requirements into technical solutions by collaborating with product owners, analysts, engineers, architects, scrum masters, and business partners, while also being able to perform detailed analysis independently when dedicated analyst capacity is limited.
- Apply data engineering and reporting best practices, including data quality validation, reconciliation, lineage awareness, metadata documentation, performance tuning, and controlled release processes.
- Contribute to cloud-based analytics solutions using Azure capabilities such as Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Azure Analysis Services, Microsoft Fabric, Synapse, Data Lake, or related services where applicable.
- Use AI-enabled development and analytics tools responsibly to accelerate requirements analysis, data profiling, code generation, test creation, documentation, anomaly detection, and continuous improvement.
- Follow Agile software development lifecycle practices, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, estimation, incremental delivery, demos, retrospectives, and proactive communication of risks or blockers.
- Take ownership of production-ready, testable, secure, and supportable data solutions that meet enterprise technology, risk, compliance, and software reliability standards.
- Conduct peer reviews of SQL, data models, reports, dashboards, and technical designs to promote engineering quality, consistency, governance, and maintainability.
- Troubleshoot data, reporting, performance, and production issues; perform root cause analysis; recommend design improvements; coordinate fixes; and support operational stability as part of regular team responsibilities.
- Balance project delivery with run-the-business support needs, including responding to questions, incidents, defects, data reconciliation issues, access concerns, refresh failures, and reporting discrepancies.
- Contribute to a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, automation, continuous learning, and responsible adoption of emerging technologies, including AI and advanced analytics.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Five to six years of relevant experience in software development, data analytics, business intelligence, data engineering, database reporting, or related technology roles.

Experience Should Include

- Hands-on experience with SQL Server, T-SQL, relational database design, query optimization, and production reporting or analytics solutions.
- Experience developing business intelligence reports, dashboards, data models, or analytics products using Power BI or comparable enterprise reporting tools.
- Working knowledge of Agile delivery practices and modern software development lifecycle principles.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a small-team environment where responsibilities may span business analysis, technical design, coding, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and production support.
- Advanced proficiency with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, Power Query, report optimization, workspace practices, refresh strategies, and role-based security concepts.
- Strong experience with SQL Server reporting, analytics, and data integration patterns, including dimensional modeling, star schemas, stored procedures, indexing, query tuning, SSIS package development/support, ETL/ELT workflows, SSRS, or comparable reporting frameworks.
- Experience designing, developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modernizing SSIS packages for data movement, transformation, scheduling, exception handling, logging, and production support.
- Experience designing OLAP, semantic, or analytical models for complex business reporting, trend analysis, KPI measurement, and self-service analytics.
- Familiarity with Azure data and analytics services such as Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Factory, Azure Analysis Services, Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric, Data Lake, Logic Apps, or related cloud-native capabilities.
- Ability to apply AI-centric practices and tools to improve solution design, development productivity, automated testing, documentation, data analysis, and operational support while maintaining responsible governance and human review.
- Comfortable working as a senior hands-on contributor in a lean team, including shifting between analyst, developer, tester, release support, and production support responsibilities as priorities require.
- Understanding of data governance, data quality, lineage, metadata, privacy, risk, security, and compliance considerations in an enterprise financial services environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex database, reporting, ETL/SSIS, performance, and data reconciliation issues.
- Ability to translate business needs into scalable technical designs and communicate technical concepts clearly to engineers, product owners, business stakeholders, vendors, and leadership.
- Experience working in Agile teams with product owners, scrum masters, architects, developers, analysts, testers, and operations partners to deliver incremental value.
- Demonstrated ownership mindset, including the ability to prioritize work, size tasks appropriately, communicate blockers early, mentor others, and drive continuous improvement.
- Solid understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, version control, automated testing, release management, monitoring, and production support practices for data and reporting solutions.
- Financial services, banking, risk, compliance, payments, operations, or regulated-industry experience is a plus.
