Our team is part of the Cloud Security organization. We are responsible for the technologies powering Akamai's security products and protecting some of the world's major internet brands. Working in partnership with other development teams, we design and create highly scalable solutions.

In this role, you'll play a key part in strengthening security products by analyzing data, addressing customer challenges, and driving product improvements. You'll collaborate across teams to implement solutions, enhance detection accuracy, and provide insights that shape strategy and performance.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be responsible for:

  • Analyzing large sets of data to differentiate legitimate and fraud traffic
  • Developing and implementing detection rules and models to improve the accuracy and effectiveness of the security products.
  • Improving processes to collect, manipulate, present, and analyze large datasets in a production-ready environment
  • Troubleshooting production issues in a very distributed environment

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have 8 years of applicable experience with a High School Diploma/ Bachelor's Degree or equivalent professional background.
  • Have experience working on large datasets using SQL/Spark and Python.
  • Have a good understanding of probability, statistics and machine learning algorithms/techniques.
  • Demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills and enjoy troubleshooting to identify and resolve complex
    issues.
  • Demonstrate practical knowledge of application security tools like bot detection or fraud prevention to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Understand Internet protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, and TLS/SSL to ensure effective communication and secure data exchange.
