Job Summary

Research, develop, implement and monitor inventory management and distribution logistics systems, concepts and procedures for worldwide parts inventory and operations management.

The Supply Chain Services (SCS) group part of Product Support & Logistics Division currently has a job opening for a ‘Senior Inventory Analyst’ position located in Bangalore, India facility.

Enterprise Logistics Solutions (ELS) Team Overview:

The Enterprise Logistics Solutions (ELS) being part of SCS group is responsible for seamless execution of critical processes for Caterpillar manufacturing facilities in the areas of New Product Introduction (NPI), Material Requirement Planning (MRP), Electronic Data Interface (EDI), Shipping label and Analytics solutions. Supply Chain Services ELS team delivers value by initiating and participating in business-critical projects and solutions.

This Lead position is responsible for developing and managing analytical solutions that support end-to-end NPI supply chain planning and key project milestones, ensuring successful NPI execution and production build readiness for the Decatur facility. The role partners closely with the Supply Chain Planning team and cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities, resolve issues, and implement data-driven solutions that improve operational performance. Key responsibilities include supporting engineering change management, BOM discrepancy resolution, part effectivity, PPAP approvals, and material dispositions through effective workflow and analytical tools. The position also drives continuous improvement initiatives, coordinates stakeholder engagement, and enhances Product Change Control (PCC) processes to enable seamless production operations and successful parts introductions.

What You Will Do:

  • Working knowledge of end-to-end New Product Introduction (NPI) supply chain planning processes, including tracking project gateways, coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders, and driving timely execution of key deliverables.
  • Experience leading project coordination activities to develop and implement supply chain solutions, ensuring alignment between Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Supplier teams.
  • Knowledge of Engineering Change Management processes, including identifying and resolving discrepancies between Bills of Material (BOM) and engineering systems to ensure data accuracy and seamless implementation.
  • Experience managing part effectivity and introduction of new parts into enterprise systems, ensuring accurate planning, inventory management, and production readiness.
  • Familiarity with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), material dispositions, deviation management, and supplier readiness activities to support successful product launches and production continuity.
  • Ability to manage workflow solutions, prioritize critical issues, and coordinate resolution activities across multiple stakeholders to support effective supply chain execution and operational excellence.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to independently drive issue resolution and process improvements in a dynamic NPI environment.
  • Management of NCM process with effective RCCA development
  • Collaborate with Buyers to provide information for successful PO launches

Degree Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, Science, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum 9-10 years of experience in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, 3PL Operations, Warehousing, Service Parts Logistics, or related fields.
  • Working knowledge of data analytics and business intelligence tools, including SAS and Power BI, for data analysis, reporting, visualization, and decision support.
  • Experience in developing and managing analytical solutions, dashboards, and performance metrics to drive operational improvements and support business objectives.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills with the ability to translate business requirements into actionable insights and process improvements.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver data-driven solutions that enhance supply chain performance, inventory management, and operational efficiency.

Distribution Center Management: Knowledge of distribution center management; ability to operate a warehouse or distribution center that handles the flow of goods from supplier to production to customer.

Level Basic Understanding:

•     Describes the role of a distribution center in the supply chain.

•     Cites examples of disruptions to the distribution process and common resolutions to these.

•     Explains basic performance measurements for a distribution center.

•     Demonstrates understanding of the processes for managing an inventory distribution center.

Inventory Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods of inventory management; ability to effectively manage local or distributed inventories of raw materials, work-in-progress and finished goods.

Level Working Knowledge:

•     Follows processes to take stock, release inventory or return into processing; resolves discrepancies.

•     Tracks inventory information for a specific product group or location.

•     Works with basic tasks of inventory management for a specific location.

•     Produces basic inventory management reports for senior staff to reconcile the inventory balances.

•     Performs the receiving, ticketing, checking in and distributing of inventory items for a specific location.

Logistics Management: Knowledge of logistics and management; ability to follow proper processes and run operations for effective and efficient movement of materials and finished products.

Level Working Knowledge:

•     Assists in the development of process flows to track lead time by activity.

•     Uses tools, with guidance, to forecast delivery times, determine costs and assess performance.

•     Maintains records of all shipments and invoices using an established system.

•     Participates in integrating logistics processes and developing effective networks.

•     Works with logistics in a domestic environment.

Planning and Organizing: Knowledge of the process of planning and arranging tasks and resources; ability to plan and organize both time and resources to get things completed while structuring and maintaining work in a systematic and highly methodical way.

Level Basic Understanding:

•     Seeks help to modify priorities as new information surfaces or conditions change.

•     Demonstrates the ability to estimate the time and resources required to complete tasks.

•     Identifies own key assignments, schedules, and process steps.

•     Applies the concept of 'critical path' in order to complete work in a timely manner and keep larger tasks on track.

Supply Chain Management - MFG: Knowledge of functions, principles and techniques used in supply chain management; ability to develop and use, strategies, practices and tools for controlling the logistical processes.

•     Recognizes software systems or components used to manage supply chain.

•     Summarizes supply chain considerations for different types of products or components.

•     Participates in supply chain analysis and uses it to spot trends and improvement opportunities.
