Specialist (CMDB Asset Management Analyst)
Job Description
The CMDB and Asset Management Analyst will be an integral member of the IT Service Management team and play a significant role in the governance, operational support, and continuous improvement of configuration and asset management processes used through the lifecycle of GfK’s ServiceNow CMDB and Asset Management capability.
The analyst will work closely with colleagues across Infrastructure, Information Security, Procurement, End User Services, and Transformation teams to support configuration management and asset management policy, process, and procedures, ensuring these are aligned with ITIL service configuration and IT asset management best practice.
They will provide proactive governance and analytical support to improve the completeness, accuracy, and integrity of CMDB and asset data, and will produce reporting and insight for stakeholders responsible for maintaining configuration and asset records across the IT estate.
Key Activities
- Support the maintenance of the governance model, policy, process, and procedures for the CMDB and Asset Management, ensuring agreed controls are followed and data remains accurate and reliable.
- Perform day-to-day analysis, validation, and remediation of CMDB and asset records to improve data quality, consistency, and lifecycle control.
- Support automated Discovery and other data integrations, ensuring discovered data is reviewed, reconciled, and correctly integrated into the CMDB.
- Maintain configuration item relationships in line with CSDM and support service mapping and dependency accuracy across the environment.
- Work closely with Change Management and technical teams to ensure CI and asset changes are reflected in the CMDB and Asset Management records in a timely manner.
- Produce regular CMDB and asset health reports, dashboards, and KPI measures to monitor policy adherence, data quality, lifecycle status, and process efficiency.
- Support hardware and software asset lifecycle activities including asset onboarding, allocation, reconciliation, refresh, retirement, and disposal record maintenance.
- Assist with stock, inventory, and ownership validation activities to ensure assets are correctly recorded, categorised, and linked to users, services, and support groups where required.
- Support audits, compliance checks, and exception analysis across CMDB and Asset Management data, helping identify gaps, risks, and corrective actions.
- Stay current on ServiceNow capabilities and supporting technologies related to CMDB, Discovery, CSDM, and Asset Management, and contribute ideas for service improvement and automation.
Qualifications
Required skills and experience
- Experience working with Service Configuration Management and/or IT Asset Management processes, preferably in a ServiceNow or similar service management environment.
- Experience maintaining CMDB data, CI relationships, class structures, and health controls, with a good understanding of the principles behind accurate configuration records.
- Experience supporting hardware and software asset lifecycle processes, including inventory control, reconciliation, ownership tracking, and retirement or disposal activities.
- Experience using dashboards, reports, and data analysis to identify data quality issues and drive corrective actions.
- Experience working with IT Service Management processes such as Change, Incident, and Problem Management in relation to configuration and asset data.
- Knowledge of hardware, software, cloud, and application CI types, including how these relate to services and assets across the estate.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to investigate discrepancies, coordinate remediation, and maintain high standards of data quality.
- Ability to work with a wide range of technical and business stakeholders in a global environment.
Desirable skills
- Experience using ServiceNow for CMDB, Discovery, CSDM, and Asset Management administration or support.
- Experience with service mapping, reconciliation, data imports, and integration troubleshooting.
- Experience supporting audit, compliance, or governance reporting in relation to CMDB or IT asset data.
- ITIL V3/4 Foundation or equivalent practical experience in Service Management.

Typical Education and Work Experience required
- At least 3 years’ experience working in an IT environment, with relevant experience in CMDB, Configuration Management, Asset Management, or ServiceNow data governance.
- High school diploma or BSc/BA in IT, Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or a relevant field.
