Senior Data Engineer – Healthcare Data (Veradigm)

Overview

Veradigm is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of healthcare data solutions that power analytics, reporting, and client deliverables. This role is critical in enabling scalable, compliant, and high-quality data pipelines across clinical, claims, and operational datasets.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience in healthcare data ecosystems, strong technical expertise in Azure-based data platforms, and a proven ability to partner with cross-functional teams to deliver client-focused solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines supporting healthcare data ingestion, transformation, and delivery
    • Sources may include claims, EHR/EMR, eligibility, pharmacy, and third-party datasets
  • Develop and maintain SQL Server stored procedures that drive core data transformation logic across client-specific and standardized pipelines
  • Implement complex transformation logic using T-SQL, including mapping, validation, aggregation, and data standardization
  • Optimize performance of SQL queries, stored procedures, and ETL processes to ensure efficient large-scale data processing
  • Develop and optimize data solutions within Azure (Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake, SQL, Databricks)
  • Lead efforts in data onboarding and implementation, ensuring timely and accurate client data integration
  • Partner closely with Professional Services, Product, DevOps, and Analytics teams to gather requirements and deliver data solutions
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and validation, including reconciliation and audit processes for healthcare datasets
  • Implement and maintain data governance and compliance standards, including HIPAA and PHI handling requirements
  • Design and document data models, mappings, and transformation logic for standardized and reusable data assets
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of data pipeline failures, performance issues, and client-impacting defects
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to streamline onboarding, reduce implementation timelines, and enhance data reliability
  • Mentor junior team members and promote best practices in data engineering and documentation

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably within healthcare or regulated data environments
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and T-SQL, with hands-on experience building complex stored procedures and data transformations
  • Experience with SQL Server performance tuning, query optimization, and indexing strategies
  • Strong Python (or similar programming language) skills
  • Hands-on experience with Azure data services (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL, Blob Storage/Data Lake)
  • Experience designing and managing ETL/ELT workflows and data pipelines
  • Solid understanding of healthcare data structures (claims, encounters, provider, member, etc.)
  • Experience with data warehousing and modeling (star schema, dimensional modeling)
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and version control (Git)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with healthcare analytics domains such as Risk Adjustment, Quality Measures, or Value-Based Care
  • Knowledge of FHIR, HL7, or other healthcare interoperability standards
  • Experience with big data frameworks (e.g., Spark, Databricks)
  • Exposure to Power BI or other BI/visualization tools
  • Experience supporting client-facing implementations or onboarding projects

Key Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to data accuracy
  • Ability to translate complex healthcare data requirements into scalable solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

What Success Looks Like

  • Successful, on-time delivery of client data onboarding and implementations
  • High-performing, reliable data pipelines with strong data quality controls
  • Efficient, well-optimized SQL processes supporting large-scale healthcare datasets
  • Scalable, reusable data solutions supporting multiple healthcare clients
  • Improved time-to-value for clients through streamlined processes and automation

Strong collaboration across teams, with clear ownership and accountability
