Position Description:

The department of University Housing and the Resident Experience (UHRE) in the Division of Student Affairs is seeking to hire a Student Services Specialist II. The Student Services Specialist provides technical expertise in data management, reporting, and systems integration for UHRE. This position focuses on managing and analyzing departmental data across multiple enterprise systems outside of the StarRez housing management platform. This position develops database queries, builds reports and dashboards, conducts data audits, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of information used for operational decision-making and institutional reporting.

Working collaboratively with the StarRez Database Administrator, the UHRE Help Desk Manager, and Information Technology Services (ITS), this position supports the exchange, analysis, and synthesis of data across UHRE systems and university platforms. The Student Services Specialist assists with system integrations, investigates data discrepancies, and develops reporting tools that help departments understand operational trends, service performance, and student housing metrics.

The Student Services Specialist II also provides technical support to the StarRez environment when needed and serves as a functional backup to the StarRez Systems Administrator during reporting cycles, system upgrades, or other operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Data Strategy and Governance

  • Develops and implements UHRE’s data governance and analytics strategy in alignment with institutional data management standards

  • Establishes policies and documentation for data management, data integrity, reporting standards, and system interoperability

  • Develop processes that promote data-informed decision-making across UHRE units

  • Ensures compliance with university policies related to FERPA, data privacy, accessibility, and institutional data governance

  • Coordinates departmental participation in University-wide analytics and reporting initiatives

  • Develop departmental data dictionaries, metadata documentation, and reporting standards

Data Analysis, Reporting, and Query Development

  • Designs and maintains complex database queries using SQL and related tools to support operational and strategic reporting

  • Develops automated reporting processes and dashboards for UHRE leadership

  • Analyzes datasets related to occupancy trends and operational performance

  • Performs advanced data synthesis across multiple enterprise systems

  • Creates dashboards and reporting tools using platforms such as Power BI, Excel, and other analytics tools

  • Translates complex technical data into actionable insights for UHRE leadership and stakeholders

Systems Integration and Data Architecture

  • Leads UHRE efforts to integrate departmental systems with institutional platforms such as Workday, reporting tools, and enterprise analytics environments

  • Designs and maintains data pipelines using APIs, automated processes, and secure file transfers

  • Collaborate with ITS to ensure reliable system interoperability across UHRE technologies

  • Develop documentation for data flows, system architecture, and integration processes

  • Evaluates emerging tools and technologies that improve automation, analytics, and system integration

Data Integrity, Auditing, and Forensic Analysis

  • Develop and implement processes for routine auditing and validation of departmental data

  • Investigates and resolves data discrepancies between housing systems and institutional records

  • Conducts forensic analysis of system anomalies, reporting inconsistencies, and operational irregularities

  • Maintains audit documentation supporting compliance, assessment, and reporting initiatives

  • Partners with UHRE leadership to ensure data accuracy for internal and external reporting requirements

Enterprise Systems Support and Administration

  • Serves as technical lead for UHRE enterprise applications outside of the StarRez platform

  • Provides system configuration, reporting support, and analytics for departmental software platforms

  • Supports staff training and documentation related to data reporting tools and analytics processes

  • Collaborate with the StarRez Systems Administrator to ensure alignment between StarRez data and other UHRE systems

  • Provides analytical or technical support to the StarRez environment as needed during major reporting cycles, system upgrades, or integration initiatives

Staff Collaboration and Technology Leadership

  • Collaborate with the StarRez Systems Administrator and Technology Specialist to ensure coordinated support across UHRE technology systems

  • Provides guidance and mentorship on data analysis and reporting best practices

  • Partners with Residence Life, Housing Operations, and administrative teams to translate operational needs into analytical solutions

Assessment and Continuous Improvement

  • Conducts data analysis supporting departmental assessment initiatives and CAS standards compliance

  • Identifies opportunities to improve reporting accuracy, automation, and system efficiency

  • Evaluates emerging analytics tools and data management practices that enhance UHRE operations

  • Performs other duties and completes special projects as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, data analytics, computer science, or a related field, and four years of related experience. Additional experience may be used on a one-to-one basis to offset educational requirements

  • Demonstrated experience developing SQL queries and working with relational databases

  • Experience with enterprise reporting tools and data visualization platforms

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, and data modeling

  • Experience performing data analysis, auditing, and data integrity validation

  • Experience working with system integrations or data pipelines between enterprise platforms

  • Experience working with higher education enterprise systems or student information systems

  • Experience building dashboards using Power BI or similar analytics platforms

  • Experience developing automated reporting processes or workflows

  • Experience performing forensic or investigative data analysis

  • Familiarity with the StarRez housing management platform

  • Experience supporting data governance initiatives within a complex organization

Work Hours and Location

This is a full-time, exempt position with a 37.5-hour regular workweek including occasional evening and weekend hours as required. Additional work hours may be required based on department needs, programming, staffing, and/or scheduling. The primary work location for this position is at the Belknap Campus.
