Lead technical operations that support world-class environmental and sustainability research in unique outdoor research environments.

The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a highly skilled technical team supporting innovative environmental science and sustainability research across Western Sydney University.

Working closely with academics, researchers and technical staff, you will coordinate the delivery of high-quality technical support across specialist outdoor research facilities, including the globally recognised EucFACE research site and associated infrastructure. Your work will directly contribute to research that explores the impacts of climate and environmental change and supports scientific discovery with real-world impact.

In this role, you’ll balance hands-on technical involvement with team leadership and operational coordination. You’ll oversee staff rostering, workload planning, performance development and day-to-day operational activities, ensuring research facilities and services run safely, efficiently and effectively. You’ll also coordinate access to facilities, manage procurement and support the maintenance and ongoing improvement of specialised equipment and infrastructure.

Operating within a collaborative multi-campus environment, you’ll work closely with other technical teams and stakeholders across the University to support research outcomes, maintain strong safety and compliance standards, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across Teaching and Research Technical Services.

This role offers the opportunity to combine leadership, technical expertise and operational management in a dynamic and purpose-driven research environment.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Reliable and high-quality technical support is delivered for field-based research projects and experiments.
  • Outdoor research facilities and equipment are safe, compliant, well-maintained and operationally effective.
  • Staff workloads, rosters and performance planning are coordinated efficiently and proactively.
  • Researchers, students and technical staff receive clear leadership and expert technical guidance.
  • Continuous improvement initiatives strengthen operational efficiency and service delivery across technical operations.
