CAT builds tenant power through education, organizing, and advocacy. WeĀ operateĀ a rentersā rights hotline, host community workshops, and organize tenants to lead a culturally humble, equity-driven housing justice movement. Position SummaryĀ
The Tenant Education & Support Coordinator plays a key role in the Tenant Protections Team (TPT), a specialized sub-department withinĀ CATāsĀ Tenant Education and Support (TES)Ā Department. This position supports culturally specific communities through strategic partnerships, education workshops, hotline and in-person support, letter-writing clinics, and eviction counseling. The ideal candidate is emotionally intelligent, culturally competent,Ā bilingual,Ā andĀ passionateĀ about housing justice.Ā
Key ResponsibilitiesĀ
Program Coordination & SupportĀ
- Recruit and support cohort groups based on building, language, culture, or geography.Ā
- Collaborate with the TenantĀ Advocacy & Engagement DepartmentĀ to implement community education models.Ā
- AssistĀ renters with building-based organizing, including canvassing, meetings, workshops, and crisis navigation.Ā
- Develop and update educational materials and social media content.Ā
- Support program development and funding efforts in collaboration with the TESĀ managers.Ā
- Maintain and expand partnerships with culturally specific organizations and legal service providers.Ā
- Contribute to strategic initiatives aligned with CATās 2025ā2027Ā Strategic Plan.Ā
- Maintain and update tracking systems of program activities and participation.Ā
- Provide translation/interpretation as needed.Ā
Rentersā Rights Workshops (RRWs)Ā
- Plan andĀ facilitateĀ online and in-person workshops for tenants and partner organizations.Ā
- Draft MOUs with community partners.Ā
- Maintain and update workshop materials and presentations.Ā
- Manage participant outreach, registration, andĀ logistics.Ā
- Track attendance and workshop data.Ā
- Lead bilingual and/or monolingual workshops in a non-English language.Ā
Hotline & In-Person SupportĀ
- ProvideĀ multilingualĀ tenant support via hotline and in-person consultations using Landlord-Tenant and Fair Housing law.Ā
- Train and supervise hotline volunteers and staff.Ā
- EnsureĀ timelyĀ andĀ accurateĀ data entry into HMIS and stay current on Oregon housing laws.Ā
- Coordinate referrals and provide technical support for hotline systems.Ā
Letter-Writing Clinics (LWC)Ā
- Organize and host clinics, including outreach and one-on-one tenant supportĀ (possibly weekly).Ā
- Develop sample letters andĀ maintainĀ tracking systems.Ā
- Translate and draft letters to a non-English language as needed.Ā
Eviction Court CounselingĀ
- IdentifyĀ tenants facing eviction and provide outreach and support.Ā
- Maintain aĀ presenceĀ atĀ evictionĀ courtĀ toĀ assistĀ tenants in crisis.Ā
Additional DutiesĀ
- WorkĀ at leastĀ one evening per week and one Saturday per month.Ā
- Attend community events with flexible scheduling.Ā
- Utilize standard office software and reporting tools.Ā
Required QualificationsĀ
- Fluency in Vietnamese, Spanish, Chinese,Ā Arabic,Ā Swahili,Ā or other languages relevant to service provision, inĀ bothĀ verbal and written.Ā
- Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.Ā
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.Ā
- Lived experience or understanding of race-based disparities.Ā
- Experience in public speaking or training.Ā
- Commitment to social and restorative justice.Ā
- Ability to support people in crisis with empathy and calm.Ā
- ProficiencyĀ in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and database systems (e.g., HMISĀ Community Services).Ā
- Reliable transportation and ability to transport materials.Ā
- Commitment to anti-racism and equity.Ā
Preferred QualificationsĀ
- Experience working with BIPOC communitiesĀ impactedĀ by housing instability.Ā
- Knowledge of Rentersā Rights and Landlord-Tenant Law.Ā
- Experience with immigrant and refugee communities.Ā
- Personal experience with housing instability.Ā
Compensation & BenefitsĀ
- Hourly Rate:āÆ$30.53 ā $32.93, depending on experience.Ā

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, CAT is reliant on annual government grants as its primary source of funding. This position is funded Through Various Grant Funding at various percentages. This position is subject to the availability of those funds.āÆĀ
