WBG Pioneer Background/Organizational Context IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets. IFC works in more than 100 countries, using its capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities. Its mission is to leverage the power of the private sector to end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity on a livable planet. The IFC Douala Office is a multidisciplinary team supporting IFC’s strategy and operations across the Central Africa region, including Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Sao Tome and Principe. IFC’s work in the region focuses on promoting sustainable private sector development through investments and advisory support across sectors such as manufacturing, agribusiness, services, infrastructure, energy, and financial institutions. Due to the continued growth of IFC’s upstream and investment activities in the region, the IFC Douala Office is seeking a highly motivated Investment Analyst Intern to support business development, transaction execution, and sector research. The internship will provide the selected candidate with exposure to IFC’s investment cycle, particularly in origination and execution, and an opportunity to contribute to impactful private sector projects in a dynamic and multicultural environment. The intern will be based onsite in Douala, Cameroon, and will work closely with IFC investment teams under the supervision of the relevant manager in the Douala Office. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute analytical rigor, strong research capacity, and a proactive approach to supporting IFC’s efforts to identify and advance high-impact private sector investment opportunities in Central Africa. Duties and Responsibilities The Investment Analyst Intern will support IFC’s investment activities in Central Africa, with a primary focus on business development, sector mapping, and transaction execution. Responsibilities may include: • Conduct market, industry, financial, and strategic analysis to identify and evaluate investment opportunities in priority sectors, consistent with IFC's regional and industry priorities. • Support business development through sector mapping, identification of prospective clients and sponsors, and analysis of market players, value chains, and investment trends. • Assist in evaluating prospective investments by analyzing business models, operating performance, financial statements, ownership structures, development impact potential, and key transaction risks. • Support transaction execution by preparing financial analyses, debt and equity financial models, and contributing to transaction structuring. • Prepare internal investment documentation, including Early Look notes, Concept Notes, and other materials required throughout IFC's investment process. • Collaborate with investment staff and cross-functional teams across IFC to help advance transactions in compliance with IFC policies and procedures. • Contribute to internal knowledge sharing by documenting market intelligence, transaction insights, and lessons learned from business development and investment activities.
