What is special about this role?

  • The Genomic Data Analyst role will work alongside clinical laboratory scientists (CLS) who possess both strong technical and analytical skills.

  • The Genomic Data Analyst will get training in a variety of data analysis workflows: Viral Surveillance, Clinical Exome, COVID Dx, Confirmatory testing, reagent qualification analysis. 

  • Position involves the active monitoring of quality indicator metrics of assay performance

  • Contribute in the development and requirement gathering of new analytical tools


As a XYZ, you will:

  • Performs day to day tasks associated with reviewing clinical results from both a RT-PCR assay and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) test.
  • Reviews raw data from RT-PCR assay, and both primary and secondary metrics for the NGS assay.
  • Collaborates with the DA Lead / Supervisor and other data analysts.
  • May assist with review and correction of incorrect data.
  • Track samples throughout the laboratory process to ensure timely reporting of clinical samples.
  • Perform analyses of clinical data and data trending using Tableau and/or other data visualization tools.
  • Use systematic problem-solving methods to troubleshoot complex issues related to quality of results.
  • Careful and accurate documentation of work.
  • Write and revise applicable SOPs as needed.
  • Present clear and concise written and oral communications to colleagues and supervisors, lead and/or participate in technical meetings, and provide recommendations based on technical results.
  • Work closely with the laboratory staff, quality assurance team and customer success to assist in investigations pertaining to quality of sample results and/or sample status. Collaborates with the DA Lead, Supervisor and other data analysts.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement and process optimization initiatives.

About you:

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent in Biology, Genetics, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with 1-2 years of experience in Biology, Genetics, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field.
  • Strong data analysis skills, ability to interpret and draw conclusions from large amounts of data.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience with data visualization/data analysis tools such as Tableau, R-Studio, Matlab or related is preferred
  • Weekly COVID testing is required for this position; this is done on site at the Helix office where the position is based.
  • Helix provides personal protective equipment for all team members including face masks and hand sanitizer while on site. 


  • Previously work experience in clinical laboratory doing data analysis
