Job description

Global Bonusing Governance (GBG) is part of Global Merchant & Network Services (GMNS). GBG is responsible for the creation, governance, and maintenance of merchant industry categories used to reward cardmembers (aka Industry Bonusing).  Industry Bonusing is a key component of American Express card value propositions driving CM spend and loyalty.  As the business owner and subject matter experts of Industry Bonusing and its processes, GBG plays an important role in enabling our business partners to provide CM and Shareholder value through new and refreshed card products and promotions.  GBG collaborates cross-functionally with enterprise Marketing, US Consumer Services, Global Commercial Services, International Card Services, Global Merchant Services, Technology, Legal, and Compliance teams among others to ensure that we can fulfil accurately on the customer promise.

 

How will you make an impact in this role?

The Analyst, Global Bonusing Governance, will work on a team that focuses on industry and merchant bonusing through consultation, governance, validation, and maintenance responsibilities for the U.S. market. This role will support the governance of industry bonusing data used to deliver value propositions to Card Members, while driving process improvements and supporting the implementation of expanded bonusing industry categories.

  • Support the validation and governance of merchant industry data used to deliver Card Member bonus rewards and benefits.
  • Drive process enhancements and operational efficiencies to improve the accuracy, scalability, and effectiveness of bonusing governance activities.
  • Apply industry classification guidelines to ensure accuracy in merchant categorization and validation.
  • Partner and collaborate with product teams and cross-functional stakeholders to optimize the data algorithms driving U.S. industry categorization.
  • Analyze merchant, transaction, and industry data to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Leverage data, emerging technologies, and AI-enabled solutions to improve decision-making, governance processes, and business outcomes.
  • Leverage analytics, dashboarding, and storytelling to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights and executive-ready recommendations for stakeholders and leadership.
  • Support governance, control, compliance, and risk management activities related to merchant and industry classification to minimize process gaps.
  • Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience in data analytics, reporting, research, data management, or related business functions.
  • Experience working with merchant data and a strong understanding of the payment's ecosystem.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in SQL, databases, and reporting tools; exposure to Python is a plus
  • Effective data storyteller with the ability to communicate insights through dashboards and executive-ready presentations.
  • Technology-savvy with an interest in leveraging AI and emerging technologies to improve processes and business outcomes.
  • Strong process orientation with a control and compliance mindset.
  • Proven ability to manage complex cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent relationship-building, communication, and collaboration skills.
