Purpose of the role

To support the organisation, achieve its strategic objectives by the identification of business requirements and solutions that address business problems and opportunities. 

Accountabilities

  • Collaboration with stakeholders to ensure that proposed solutions meet their needs and expectations.

  • OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.

In this role you will be responsible for helping the business implement technology solutions in creating Data Products and ensuring the needs of our customers and colleagues by supporting and determining the requirements of a project or programme, communicating them clearly to stakeholders, facilitators and partners.  You will play a key role in supporting the communications between Group Control Data & Analytics team and the business, acting as a translator where necessary to convert Business Requirement to precise Data Requirements to support the needs of Data Products.


To be successful in the role of a Business Analyst for Data Products you should have:

  • Ability to extract Data Requirement and prepare Business Requirement Doc (BRD), Functional Requirement (FR), Non-Functional Requirement (NFR).
  • Excellent SQL Skills with Data Warehousing and Data Lake understanding.
  • Understand Data Model, ETL Data Pipeline, Data Lineage.
  • An understanding of Data Products, business analysis techniques, including requirement gathering, documentation, function design and process flows.
  • Articulate your ideas, playing back the business needs in a language that can be easily understood while being able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.



Some other highly valued skills include:

  • Understanding of Data Model, ETL Data Pipeline and Data Lineage. Ability to analyse large volumes of data and articulate findings.
  • Good understanding of SDLC and Agile Delivery processes. Experience of how to own and manage Data Requirements from inception to sign off.
  • Ability to do Feasibility Assessment with High level design thoughts and Structured documentations.


You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job specific technical skills.

This role can be based in either Glasgow or Northampton.
