Join the Institute for Justice, a public interest law firm on the front lines fighting to end widespread abuses of government power and to secure the rights of all Americans.

In this position, you will support Development operations by expertly providing for our CRM data needs and ensuring our generous donors receive appropriate and correct communications about their support and what it makes possible. You will build and maintain reports for a variety of mail and email distributions, including our three annual appeal mailings (our primary means of soliciting donors), and ensure our donation entry and acknowledgement is accurate. Effectively building reports in our instance of Salesforce will require an understanding of many interconnected objects and dozens of associated fields, so the ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation of CRM knowledge and an ability to apply that to our unique Salesforce setup.

Maintaining the integrity of our data is another key aspect of this position, and responsibilities include auditing recently entered donations to ensure proper attribution and coding, evaluating recently created contact records to ensure all fields are accurately populated, and regularly reviewing existing reports to confirm the fields and filters keep up with our evolving database. In doing so, you will identify potential gaps in our processes and propose and implement solutions to address them.

Characteristics:

The ideal candidate will exhibit the close attention to detail necessary for data entry and donation handling tasks, demonstrate an ability to coordinate and work well with a range of team members on their data and report needs, and will establish themselves as the in-house expert for all Development data.

Responsibilities:
  • Support donor giving club and program managers by building reports and exporting accurate lists for a variety of cultivation, marketing, and solicitation distributions.
  • As needed, support other report-building needs such as compiling data for reporting to our board, to prepare for biannual team strategy and planning meetings, or to investigate questions pertaining to specific internal processes.
  • Review varied datasets, ranging from donations to event registration lists, to ensure accurate and clean records are kept.
  • Regularly evaluate our reports to ensure they are aligned with current data entry practices and are updated to reflect changes in our Salesforce instance.
  • Identify gaps in our processes that are affecting the integrity of our data and propose and implement solutions.
  • Create contact records, including converting leads generated when a potential supporter signs up to receive our bimonthly magazine or email communications.
  • Support mass email outreach by maintaining data integrity in our email marketing platform. Serve as backup for setting up and sending mass emails on an as needed basis.
Required Skills:
  • 1-2 years operating within a Salesforce environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proven ability to independently manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Interpersonal skills, capacity to effectively work with team members
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, enthusiasm for taking on varied projects and identifying and filling potential gaps in our operations
  • Ability to troubleshoot unexpected errors that arise
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (particularly Excel)
  • A commitment to producing error-free work
  • Ability to work onsite at IJ’s Arlington, VA, office
Benefits:
  • Hybrid work schedule
  • Flexible work hours with our core business hours of 10am and 4pm
