Job description

At Tourism Australia, we know and love this land. We also know our people are our strength, their different experiences and backgrounds are the key to Tourism Australia’s success. Every day we share our passion with the world, sharing the story of Australia and our 65,000 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. We are just as passionate about creating an incredible culture at Tourism Australia, recognizing and supporting the individuality of our people, in an environment where we learn and grow together.

Tourism Australia markets one of the most desired destinations on Earth, and data is what makes that marketing work. We're looking for a Global Data Manager to own our marketing data ecosystem end to end: architecture, governance, reporting and insight, across every market we operate in.

This is a hands-on role. You'll build and maintain data and reporting solutions directly, and direct agency and vendor delivery for work at scale, staying inquisitive enough to check what comes out the other end before anyone reports on it. You'll also help lead our approach to AI-driven search and discovery, keeping our content and data structured for machine readability, an area still being defined industry-wide.

Reporting to the General Manager, Digital & Marketing Operations, you'll operate in a genuine matrix: no direct reports of your own, but a network of people across the business, Analytics, Strategy & Research, technology and delivery, who you'll need to align and bring with you rather than direct. You'll know when to pull in the right SME and work collaboratively, and when to just get on with it solo.

What you'll do

  • Lead and implement the marketing data strategy, including architecture, governance and platform builds
  • Own and maintain our owned-platform data sources, keeping them documented and effectively operational
  • Take the lead role in data governance and integration for new systems, platforms and initiatives
  • Review and select the tools that build TA's marketing data practice
  • Own key agency and vendor relationships, and lead the transfer of their technical and historical knowledge into our own team
  • Run smaller data and technical initiatives independently, end to end
  • Ensure the processes and decisions behind our data work are clearly documented, building lasting, self-sufficient capability across the team
  • Lead our approach to AI-driven search and discovery
  • Work in an energetic team, and matrix environment

Let’s talk about you

At Tourism Australia, we believe that creating a strong, healthy, and positive culture, is the secret to making extraordinary things happen. What will set you apart from the crowd and ensure your success in the role? To succeed in this role, your profile will demonstrate the following knowledge and skills.

  • Deep, hands-on expertise in Adobe Analytics, GA4 and Power BI (or equivalent). This isn't a role for delegating the tools.
  • A background that started hands-on and technical before moving into broader data leadership.
  • Comfort operating in a matrix, influencing and getting outcomes from people who don't report to you.
  • Genuine curiosity about AI-driven search, structured data, and how brands get measured in AI-generated results.
  • Ability to bring clarity to ambiguity, and turn it into clean, documented, defensible decisions.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal, with a knack for building interpersonal relationships that get good outcomes.
  • Judgement to know when a task needs SME input and collaboration, and when to run with it independently.
