This position is based at our headquarters in Mooresville, North Carolina. Our corporate office is a space where you can collaborate and do your best work. Take a walk, grab a bite (or a cup of coffee), work out or get a check-up – we invest in you so you can find your inspiration.
Your ImpactThe Risk Finance & Analytics Lead provides strategic, forward-looking financial and analytical insight for Lowe's casualty risk programs. This role develops models, forecasts and decision-support analyses that explain financial and claims performance, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and inform risk-financing, operational and strategic decisions. The role works across risk management, finance, accounting, safety, legal, operations, IT and external partners to connect claims activity and operational trends to financial outcomes. Success in this role requires the ability to move beyond reporting what happened to explain why it happened, what may happen next and what action should be taken. The Lead is expected to demonstrate intellectual curiosity, challenge assumptions, proactively identify areas for deeper analysis and bring forward new ideas, models and analytical approaches. The role also serves as a key risk management business and data subject-matter expert, helping translate casualty business needs and data relationships into scalable data lake, dashboard and analytical solutions.
What You Will Do
- Develop and enhance financial models supporting casualty loss forecasts, insurance accruals, budgets, long-range plans, Total Cost of Risk and other risk-financing decisions.
- Analyze performance against forecast, budget, actuarial expectations and prior periods; identify underlying drivers of variance and translate results into clear business implications and recommended actions.
- Evaluate claim frequency, severity, reserve development, payment patterns, closures, litigation, large losses and other emerging cost drivers across workers' compensation, general liability and auto liability programs.
- Create scenario, sensitivity and trend analyses to assess potential financial outcomes, challenge assumptions and support strategic and operational decisions.
- Partner with external actuaries to validate loss and exposure data, evaluate assumptions, interpret reserve and loss-development results, reconcile actuarial liabilities to financial results, and monitor emerging development between formal studies.
- Develop internal monitoring tools, leading indicators and analytical frameworks designed to identify potential financial deterioration or improvement before it is fully reflected in reported results.
- Measure the financial and operational impact of claims strategies, vendor programs, clinical initiatives, process changes and other risk-management investments; develop business cases and post-implementation analyses to assess value and performance.
- Produce executive-level reporting and decision support that clearly communicates performance, underlying drivers, outlook, risks, opportunities and recommended actions; translate complex actuarial, claims and financial information into practical business insights.
- Serve as a key risk management partner to finance and accounting, supporting the integrity of casualty accruals, liabilities, forecasts, reconciliations, excess recoveries and financial reporting, including applicable financial controls, SOX and audit requirements.
- Serve as the risk management business and data subject-matter expert for enterprise data lake, dashboard and analytical solutions; translate business requirements and casualty data relationships for technology and data partners, validate data definitions and business logic, and help ensure solutions accurately reflect financial and operational performance.
- Strengthen data quality, model governance, documentation, controls and consistency across risk-finance reporting and identify opportunities to automate recurring analysis and improve the speed, accuracy and scalability of reporting and decision support.
- Proactively identify questions requiring deeper analysis without reliance on predefined reporting requests; develop hypotheses, explore relationships across claims, operational and financial data, and brings forward new insights, models and analytical approaches.
- Provide analytical support for insurance renewals, retention strategies, collateral, captive considerations and other risk-financing decisions, as needed.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and functional leader across risk management and cross-functional partners; constructively challenge assumptions, influence decisions and convert analytical insight into action.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, risk management, data analytics, economics or related field or equivalent years of experience in lieu of education requirement, if applicable
- 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in risk finance, financial planning and analysis, insurance finance, actuarial analysis, claims analytics, accounting, data analytics or a related field
- Demonstrated experience developing and owning complex financial models, forecasts, scenario analyses, variance analyses or enterprise analytical processes
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify business drivers, evaluate complex data and translate analysis into clear conclusions, recommendations and leadership-level communication
- Experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders and leading analytical initiatives, projects, consultants, vendors or project teams
Preferred Skills/Education
- Master’s degree in business administration or actuarial coursework or other relevant professional designation
- Experience with workers' compensation, general liability, auto liability or other casualty programs; including loss development, IBNR, actuarial reserving, claim forecasting or insurance accounting
- Experience partnering with technology or data teams to define business requirements and develop data lake solutions, dashboards, data products or enterprise reporting capabilities
