What you'll be doing

The Risk Data Management Office plays an important role in enabling strong risk management through trusted data, modern architecture, and effective governance. As Senior Director, Risk Data Strategy, you'll lead the vision, design, and delivery of a large, complex, multi-year transformation of CIBC's risk data ecosystem to deliver measurable improvements in decision-making, data quality, scalability, efficiency, and user experience across the bank. You'll develop and execute the short-, medium-, and long-term strategy for risk data architecture, aligning risk management priorities with enterprise business, data, and technology capabilities. In this leadership role, you'll drive modernization across cloud architecture, data governance, integration, reporting, automation, and advanced analytics, while helping strengthen regulatory readiness and enterprise alignment. You'll work closely with senior leaders across Risk Management, Technology, Finance, Compliance, and Operations to translate complex priorities into a clear roadmap, mobilize cross-functional teams, and deliver sustainable business outcomes. You'll also lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role.  You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 2-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

  • Lead strategic direction - Develop and execute Risk's data architecture strategy, ensuring alignment with CIBC's business priorities, enterprise data strategy, and risk management framework.
  • Strengthen data, data governance, and reporting - Oversee initiatives that improve risk data aggregation, governance, lineage, controls, and reporting. Apply a practical understanding of BCBS 239 and Enterprise data governance requirements to ensure the target state supports reliable capital and risk reporting while also creating broader business value.
  • Drive technology and cloud architecture modernization - Lead the assessment, design, and evolution of risk data architecture, including data modelling, data warehousing, pipelines, cloud platforms, integration patterns, security, resiliency, and data controls. Bring sufficient technology depth to partner with engineering and architecture teams, and ensure solutions are scalable, sustainable, and aligned with enterprise standards.
  • Advance innovation - Identify opportunities to streamline and automate manual processes and evaluate the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics to enhance risk data capabilities and decision-making.
  • Deliver a large, complex, multi-year transformation - Own end-to-end program delivery, from strategy and investment case through roadmap, execution, adoption, and benefits realization. Establish clear outcomes, milestones, governance, dependencies, resource plans, and delivery controls; proactively resolve risks and trade-offs; and maintain accountability across multiple workstreams and senior stakeholders. Success will be measured by tangible business value and sustainable capability improvements, not only by regulatory compliance.
  • Build strong partnerships - Collaborate with leaders across Risk, Finance, Compliance, Operations, Technology, Internal Audit, and enterprise data functions to align priorities, support governance, and advance strategic initiatives.

Who you are

  • You're an experienced people leader. You have a strong track record of leading and developing high-performing, multi-functional teams. You know how to create clarity, build capability, and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • You bring deep technology and risk data architecture expertise. You have technology experience and a strong command of modern data architecture, including cloud architecture, data platforms, integration, data modelling, security, resiliency, and controls. You can engage credibly with architects and engineers, connect technology choices to business outcomes, and guide the design of scalable, resilient, and well-governed solutions within a complex financial institution.
  • You are a proven transformation and program delivery leader. You have successfully delivered large, complex, multi-year programs spanning business and technology, with multiple workstreams, significant dependencies, and senior stakeholder visibility.
  • You understand OSFI CAR and BCBS 239 requirements. You bring a practical understanding of OSFI's Capital Adequacy Requirements guidelines, BCBS 239 principles, and the data, governance, aggregation, lineage, control, and reporting capabilities required to support them. You can translate regulatory expectations into pragmatic design and delivery decisions without losing focus on the broader business value of the transformation.
  • You are an exceptional and influential communicator. You communicate complex business, technology, architecture, and regulatory concepts with clarity and confidence across technical teams, business leaders, senior executives, governance committees, and Board-level stakeholders. You create alignment, make decisions and trade-offs transparent, tailor messages to the audience, and use compelling written and verbal communication to sustain momentum through a multi-year transformation.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
