In this critical role on the AI and Data Governance team, the candidate leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of internal AI and data governance policies, standards, and procedures across all EchoStar lines of business. The position addresses the challenge of operationalizing complex, emerging regulatory frameworks—such as the NIST AI RMF, EU AI Act, and Colorado ADMT Act—into clear, actionable business guidelines. Additionally, this role bridges the gap between theoretical governance requirements and technical execution by actively road-testing policies to eliminate friction and maintain organizational momentum.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives):

  • Lead actionable policy drafting and lifecycle management by conducting decision-to-data mapping, maintaining version-controlled documentation, and writing specific guidelines to govern ethical AI deployment
  • Operationalize emerging AI regulations by translating frameworks into clear checklists, removing ambiguity for EchoStar business units and engineering teams
  • Conduct feasibility testing with technical stakeholders to refine policies, ensuring standards are frictionless and practical before finalization
  • Standardize governance measurement through the creation of templates, decision trees, and scored evaluation guides
  • Serve as the operational link between Governance Leadership and Forward Deployed Expertise teams to drive alignment and clear execution handoffs

Core Skills, Competencies, and Key Experiences (What you’ll bring)

  • AI Application proficiency, leveraging AI tools to enhance automation, productivity, and governance workflows
  • Logical policy development capabilities with a track record of creating version-controlled, accessible governance documentation for non-legal teams
  • Data interpretation expertise to define specific metadata, logging requirements, and testing protocols aligned with regulatory standards
  • Strategic collaboration skills to influence without authority, effectively bridging gaps between business, risk, and technical execution teams
  • Deep domain knowledge in standardized governance frameworks including the NIST AI Risk Management Framework

Candidates must be willing to participate in at least one in-person interview.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Policy, Data Science, Computer Science, or Engineering
  • Minimum Experience: 4 years of experience in AI/Data Governance, Technical Policy, Process Engineering, or Compliance
  • Required Technical Skills: Must have at least 4 years of experience with:
    • NIST AI Risk Management Framework
    • Decision-to-data mapping and policy drafting
